Ongoing assessmentsFormative: Daily, ongoing assessments/observations that are used to monitor
student progress toward mastery of standards. These assessments typically assess mastery of individual standards.
Summative: An assessment that is used at the end of a unit of study. These
assessments generally assess student mastery of several standards.

What does Common Core mean? Integration of language skills across the curriculum. Lessons are planned to include mathematics, social
studies, and science topics, along with reading and language arts.
The goal is to provide common, challenging, and in-depth instruction on a nationwide level.
