What’s that sound?Go into your garden and stand, silently for 1 full minute. Write down all the things that you hear during that time. Now think about why those sounds happened – was it due to the time of day, the weather, the location of your house…….
Everything is connectedSketch something that is alive, then draw connections to other living things. What does it eat and what eats it? Does anything live with it?
Why won’t it snow?Write a weather diary for one week. Use the met office website or BBC Weather to record: temperature, wind speed, rainfall, wind direction and air pressure.
https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/https://www.bbc.co.uk/weatherCan you link any of these weather elements together?
Become a garden explorerSit in the garden or watch from a window and give new names, that you have made up, to plants and animals according to what they look like or what they do.
Where are you from? Speak to family members and find out where they have lived. Create a map to show the locations.
How connected are you?
Find 10 household items – food stuff, clothes, technology, book….. Create a map to show where these items were made or have come from.

How has it changed?
Speak to the oldest person in your family. Ask them how the place where
they live has changed – bigger, quieter, more houses, less trees, same
shops, do they know as many people…..
Micro-explore
Explore a crack in the path in the back garden. Draw tiny sketches of this
newly-discovered micro world.
Underground
Dig a hole in the garden. What do see in there? How many insects ae
there and what are they? What colours can you see? What rocks or
debris makes digging the hole difficult?
Build a mini-cairn/ rock stack challenge
Using only rocks or stones from your garden, build the tallest rock stack
that you can. Will it stand, unsupported for 1 minute?

Redesign the Scotland Flag
The Scottish Government have given you the task of redesigning the flag of Scotland. The flag should represent the Geography of Scotland, as well as anything else that interests you about Scotland. Flag checklist:
1. Something representing the physical geography of Scotland (mountains, lochs, sea, rivers, the weather)
2. Something representing the human Geography of Scotland (cities, towns, famous landmarks, people)
3. At least one other design feature relevant to Scotland (this can be anything; haggis, irn bru, tartan.............)
