The Dunbar School Day—8:35 a.m. to 3:45 p.m

Student Check In & Out

Students should be signed in by a parent if they are tardy. Students may

sign themselves in with a doctor’s excuse or a note from the parent; an

unexcused tardy or absence will be recorded if written notice is not pro-

vided to the office.

Parents or designee, as shown on the Pupil Information Form (PIF), are

REQUIRED to come to the office to sign their student out; NO EXCEP-

TIONS. No one under 18 years of age may sign out a student.

Attendance & Tardy Policy 447-2600

Students are required by law to be in school each school day. If the stu-

dent is unable to attend a parent/guardian MUST call the school by

NOON on the day of the absence to report the reason for the absence.

The Attendance Secretary or an automated phone system will notify par-

ents of unexcused absences and tardies.

The following sanctions will occur for unexcused absences:

1.At the 5th unexcused absence a parent/guardian MUST have a confer-

ence with the student’s grade level Assistant Principal.

2.After the 7th unexcused absence in a semester a court referral will be

filed on all students who have not attained their 18th birthday.

The following sanctions will occur for unexcused tardies:

1st Tardy Written warning and note to parent via student.

2nd Tardy One day Sent Home; student may not return until

Parent conference with grade level Asst. Principal

3rd Tardy Three Day In School Suspension

4th Tardy Four Days Out of School Suspension

If we move during the school year or change phone numbers, do I have

to notify the school? Yes, for a change of address you will need to

provide a copy of your lease OR a utility bill in your name to the

school or student assignment. For a phone number change you will

need to call the school and have the number updated.

Do I complete a Free or Reduced Meal Application each year? Yes

What time will Security be on campus in the morning? 8:00 a.m.

What time will personnel be in the main office? 8:00 a.m.

What time will the cafeteria begin serving breakfast? 8:00 a.m.

What time will students be admitted to the building? 8:35 a.m.

What time is the first tardy bell of the day? 8:45 a.m.

How much time is allowed between classes? 5 minutes

How do I track my student’s attendance and grades? Edline

Do I call the school for a late or no show bus? No, call 447-4130

Do I have to notify the school everyday my child is absent? Yes May I send flowers, candy, etc. to the school for my child’s birthday or

holidays? No, students will not be allowed to keep them; they create

a distraction to the learning environment .

Early dismissal during finals? No, this is against district policy for

middle schools.
