BUCKNELL UNIVERSITY SPORTSMANSHIP POLICY

The Bison Good Sports program is a sportsmanship awareness program designed to promote appropriate fan conduct at all

Bison sporting events. "Bucknell aims to set a standard for excellence in academics and athletics, a standard reflected in such

successes as our outstanding graduation rate among student-athletes and our 17 Patriot League Presidents' Cup championships."

While the extremes of unwanted behavior and its impact on home and visiting fans are not commonplace at Bison athletics events,

Bucknell and our visiting teams ask for our fans' help in keeping their support of our teams positive and cheer with positive

encouragement, rather than supporting an atmosphere of intimidation that attempts to degrade opposing players and teams. We

hope that our fans will continue to join our players, coaches and staff in helping all spectators find creative and ingenious ways to

positively support our Bucknell student-athletes." Bucknell athletics will not tolerate profanity or vulgar language and doing so are

grounds for immediate removal from the playing venue. No spectator will disrespectfully address the game officials or umpires. The

sportsmanship policy is strictly enforced; event management staff has responsibility to enforce the sportsmanship policy and may

choose to eject fans that do not comply. We ask for your help in developing a more positive atmosphere. It is the responsibility of each

participant to do everything possible to ensure that the game atmosphere is friendly and good-natured.

BUCKNELL UNIVERSITY TAILGATING REGULATIONS

• Bucknell Public Safety shall designate permissible tailgating areas/parking spaces that will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be saved. All pre-game tailgating activities must cease at kick-off. Parking areas must be cleared two hours after that game.

• Tailgating is permitted only in areas where the flow of traffic is not obstructed and must comply with all University regulations. Tailgating that uses or infringes upon an additional adjacent parking space is not permitted.

• Only small weighted tents may be erected in tailgating/parking lot areas. Larger tents that require staking must be rented from the University and erected under the supervision of the Bucknell facilities staff at least five (5) days prior to the event.

• Waste food items and trash, including charcoal, must be disposed of in appropriate containers, which are provided throughout the grounds.

• Kegs, party balls, pooling or mass purchases of alcohol are not allowed. • Tailgates hosted by official University clubs and organizations must reserve space through the Events

Management office (570) 577-3095. • Private tailgates hosted by faculty, staff, parents, and fans: Private social events at homes and in similar settings

such as tailgates are a tradition of long standing and are a means through which faculty, staff and students can widen the context in which they know each other. University policy still precludes the serving of alcoholic beverages to anyone under 21 years of age. Hosts who furnish alcohol that is consumed by underage students incur personal criminal risks, University judicial sanctions, and personal civil liability exposure (for injuries to the minors themselves or any persons injured by the minors; subsequent activities).

• University sponsored closed invitation tailgates: There are campus-sponsored events which are restricted to “invited guest only” such as Alumni Office Sponsored Tailgates, Football Alumni Tailgate, Corporate Sponsor Tailgates. Alcohol may be made available in accordance with University policy and all state laws. Major requirements include: the event must be approved by and registered with that Dean of Students, signs about the legal age of consumption must be posted; alcohol must be dispensed by a trained, professional bartended – not an undergraduate, and alcoholic beverages must not be posted; alcohol must not be served to anyone intoxicated or under 21.

• University Open Invitation Scheduled Events: These are University-sponsored events which are open to the entire University community and, frequently, to non-University personnel as well. Such University-sponsored events must be alcohol free, without exception.

• Any violation to tailgating regulations may result in immediate termination of tailgating privileges and criminal prosecution or disciplinary action through the Bucknell Office of Public Safety, the Dean of Students Office or local law enforcement agencies.

BUCKNELL UNIVERSITY LIGHTNING DETECTION SYSTEM THORGUARDIAN is an unattended lightning prediction system that provides both an audio and visual warning that can be seen and heard from all playing fields in the complex. The horns and visual strobe light unit is located on the roof of the maintenance building adjacent to Graham Field. When conditions are prevalent for a Red-Alert hazard, the horn will sound continuously for 15 seconds. The strobe light will turn on and stay on. We require teams to clear the field and encourage fans to seek shelter at this time. Upon returning to a safe environment, the All Clear signal will sound: three five second horns with seconds between. At this time the strobe light will turn off.
