Philosophy    

¢ Degrees:    Bachelor  of  Science  in  Interdisciplinary  Studies  PreK-­‐6th  grade  from  Radford  University,  and    Masters  of  

Science  in  Elementary  Education  and  a  Masters  of  Science  in  

Educational  Leadership  PreK-­‐12th  grade  

¢ Previously  taught  in  2nd  grade  through  8th  grade  Algebra  

while  living  in  West  Virginia,  Tennessee,  and  Iowa.      

¢ Is  teaching  for  the  4th  Year  in  Loudoun  County  

¢ Has  been  teaching  for  20  years

¢ Has  been  married  to  her  highschool  sweetheart,  Brian  Fouch,  for  21  years  

¢ Has  three  daughters:    Hannah-­‐18,  Sarah-­‐12,  and  Kayla-­‐8  ¢ Has  lived  in  Charleston,  WV;  Yellowstone  National  Park,  WY;  Austin,  TX;  

Nashville,  TN,  and  Ames,  IA

The  First  Grade  Team  

Let’s  have  a  little  fun…  

*  I  believe  that  learning  should  be  fun,  active,  and  engaging  for  all  children.      

 *  Children  need  to  be  taught  how  to  “think”,  problem  solve,  and  justify  their  answers.    Learning  is  not  just  rote  memorization  of  facts.  

 *  Students  in  my  class  will  explore  and  learn  in  a  variety  of  ways.    They  will  spend  very  little  time  on  worksheets!  

 *  Did  you  know…most  6  year  olds  are  only  able  to  sit  still  for  6  minutes!  

Snacks Your child will have time to eat a healthy snack each

morning. *  Must be something that your child is able to open

independently and eat within five to ten minutes

*  Non-messy snacks, please!

*  Water ONLY

*  NO NUTS or nut products!

Conferences

*  Will be held for each family at the end of the first grading period.

*  First quarter progress report will be discussed during these conferences.

*  Please sign up for your conference TONIGHT!    

Our Mission

• Homework will go home each day in the BEE binder and is to be returned the next day, completed

• 30 minutes per night

• Recess Equipment Donations – jump ropes, balls, frisbee, sidewalk chalk

• Please make sure you have told me how your child gets home.

• Bus Riders will be put on their bus by me

• Must receive a note to send a child home a different way than normal

• If you pick your child up early, they will meet you in the office

A field trip will be taken this year. More information to come home later in the year!

• Students may arrive to the classroom between 7:30 – 7:50

• Students will complete morning work during this time which is expected to be done by 8:00

• BEE Binders will be checked first thing in the morning for important notes, money, homework,

 *  I  strive  to  maintain  a  positive  learning  

environment  with  a  focus  on  enabling  students  to  understand  and  respect  one  another.  Our  classroom  rules  state:    

 1.  Respect  yourself.      2.  Respect  others.      3.  Respect  our  school.      

*  Students  can  move  their  clip  on  our  behavior  chart  up  for  positive  behavior  and  choices,  and  down  for  negative  choices.    Also,  each  child  gets  a  fresh  start  on  the  chart  each  morning.

Our  Morning  Meeting  

Homework  and  Graded  Papers  

ü No  more  than  60  minutes  of  homework  per  night,  this  includes  20  minutes  of  reading.  

ü Agendas  will  be  filled  out  daily  and  should  be  checked  by  you  nightly.  

ü Friday  Folders  go  home  weekly,  envelope  needs  to  be  signed  by  you.  All  graded  papers  go  in  the  folder.  

ü Weekly  emails  are  sent  home.  ü Homework  is  posted  on  my  website  weekly                

*  Provide a well lit, quiet, environment for homework completion. *  Parental assistance is encouraged when

appropriate. *  Initial agenda after checking for completion

of homework and check Missed Work Handout. *  Please use the agenda to inform your child’s

teacher if he or she does not understand the homework concepts.

The purpose of the agenda: communication between home and school Record homework, tests, projects, & special events Please remember to sign/initial the agenda nightly for the first quarter

•  “We Missed You” Sheet: If your child is absent another student will collect any work completed by the class throughout the day and record it on the “We Missed You” sheet. The packet of work will then be left on your child’s desk to complete within two days of absence.
