Welcome to -
An e-Portfolio is:
• An information management system that uses electronic media. (WORD/ web authoring platform/PPT)
• Learner builds/maintains a digital repository of artifacts – to demonstrate competence and reflect on their learning.
• Having access to their records, digital repository, feedback and reflection students can achieve a greater understanding of their individual growth, career planning and CV building.

What do e-Portfolios represent?
“e-Portfolios focus on growth & development over time; they can be seen as concrete representations of critical thinking & reflection of skills & achievements;
implemented through the selection of evidence for goal setting and self evaluation..”
(Barrett, 1999, 2000)
Students Authoring in the Media of their Times :
21st Century Literacy Skills.
That was then: This is now.
e-Portfolios: a digitized self portrait of
students as learners.
1. What does the pile of file folders suggest to you about assessment? About the learners? 2. What role does the learner play?3. Who were the folders shared with?
Who can we share the e-Portfolio with? What are we assessing? What is the purpose?
• 4. What does the diagram to the right suggest to you about a learner centered approach?
• 5. How can these be shared? What is now being shared with-in a digitized format?

It’s a different World!
Technology enables students to collect & organize more effectively.
• Through the use of technology, learners can use tools to record their progress over time.
• "A culture of evidence asks learners to think more deeply about learning to show what they have learned rather than simply choose an answer from a list of multiple choice options.” (Barrett)
The e-Portfolio is a tool to help learners:
1. Think about and plan their future;2. Evaluate their progress in conjunction with
facilitators, colleagues & advisors;3. Identify learning experiences that will help reach
their goals;4. Demonstrate what they know & can do;5. Learn to use, a progressive tool which will be
carried forward from year-to-year to recognize vital pieces of their personal, academic & career development process; plus
6. Record ongoing work & accomplishments throughout their career development.
The e-Portfolio is a tool to help faciliators:
1. Encourage & support best teaching practices & learning opportunities;
2. Provide a convenient way to collect and sort information that helps learners think about where they want to go;
3. Demonstrate, that the outcomes stated in the CCLDP Learning Program & University outcomes are being met;
4. Increase learner motivation & engagement by connecting learning, to the participants' personal interests & accomplishments; then,
5. Connect learning to the essential elements of Career Development for learners.

Define the Need:
• This is the most important part of the process.
• This is where you would define the difference between what is really happening (is) & what you wish would be happening (should).
Performance: Should / Is
Should:• 100% complete an e-
Portfolio;• Each learner has
“artifacts” for the 3 categories;
• 100% goals met as set out by learner/facilitator;
• Receive credit for completing an e-Portfolio

What is happening in your program?
Barriers to Implementing e-Portfolios -
Factors Driving the Performance Gap:
1. Know what to do;
2. Able to do;
3, Equipped to do;
4. Want to do.

How would you modify the metric to meet your
“needs” ?
