About Mrs. Trumpler

• Mrs. Trumpler grew up in the Delmar, N.Y.• She graduated from the State University of

Oneonta in N.Y. and is certified to teach Pre-K through 6th.

• She graduated with a Master’s Degree in Childhood Literacy from the State University of Albany in N.Y.

• This is her fourth year teaching second grade at RPS.

• Her husband is a United States Marine.

About Mrs. Carter

• Mrs. Carter is from Jacksonville, NC.

• She has been a Teacher’s Assistant for 15 years. This is her first year in second grade!

• She has two children and is a grandmother to 3 boys.

Behavior Policy• Your child will begin each day with his/her name on white. If a

student is not following a classroom rule he/she will be given a verbal or nonverbal warning before being asked to move his/her name.

Snack

• Make sure your child has a snack everyday! Snack will be in the morning.

• Snacks will no longer be for sale through the school

• The PTO will still sell popcorn for 50¢ on Fridays ONLY!

Breakfast

• If your child will eat breakfast at the school, make sure they do so prior to coming to the classroom!

Lunch• Our lunch time is 12:31-12:56 at Table 4.• You are welcome to join your child for lunch,

just make sure you sign in in the office and get a visitor’s sticker.

• You can now prepay your child’s account online. Check out the county website for more information.

Homework Folders• Your child will bring their homework folder

home each night.• In the front pocket you will find a weekly

schedule including reminders, homework assignments, their spelling words and their behavior.

• Please sign the reading log and behavior each night, as well as looking over your child's other homework sheets.

• Please check the folder for notes and announcements each night.

• Please make sure your child brings this back to school everyday!

First day of School• Make sure your child has:

– Any supplies on the list that they did not bring today

– Their backpack– Their lunch or lunch money– Their snack

Bus• For the first two weeks of school,

your child must wear their tags that identify if they are bus riders or pickup.

• Please talk to your child about appropriate bus behavior and safety prior to the first day of school

Pick up• Please pick him/her up by 2:45 in the

cafeteria. • You must park and come inside the

cafeteria to pick up your child at our designated table.

• For the first two weeks of school, your child must wear their tags that identify if they are bus riders or pickup.

Early Release Days• The school will have 5 early release days during

the school year. • September 22, October 20, February 9, March

9, and April 6. • Boys and Girls Club will not be open. Please let

me know if your child will be riding the bus or being picked up on those days.

Conferences

• We will have at least 2 conferences this school year! Any additional will be scheduled upon need/ request.

• I will contact you to schedule these.

Visitors and Volunteers

• If you would like to eat lunch with your child you are welcome to, just make sure to sign in at the front office and get a sticker that states if you are a visitor. This is for the safety of your children, this is the school’s way of knowing who is on campus!

• If you would like to volunteer at our school you must contact the county office and be finger printed.

Social Studies• Our social studies curriculum focuses

on citizenship and communities.• We will be focusing on how to be a

responsible citizenship, government, basic economic concepts, our environment, and the role of technology in school, at home and in the community.

Science

• In science we will be learning about weather, the properties of matter, sound, insects, and animal life cycles.

Math• Your child will be using numbers

through 999, working with fractions, solving problems that involve addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division into halves, thirds, and fourths. They will also use standard and metric units of measurement, conduct probability experiments and recognize and represent patterns.

Writing

• We will be focusing on making students better writers through the enforcement of the writing process. We will be using many graphic organizers to help us organize our thoughts through each step of the writing process

Reading

• We will be focusing on making all students better and more independent readers. We will be reading a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts and working on improving students understanding of what they read.
