Welcome to 100 Mile House
elcome to the District of 100 Mile House. A small town ambiance with the heart of a big city; 100 Mile offers a
skilled workforce, an affordable housing stock, an abundance of commercial/industrial lands and a very attractive
cost of living for prospective investors and their employees.
The local economy has historically been closely tied to the forest industry and value added products, such as the log home
building industry, from which 100 Mile House has become recognized around the world as the Handcrafted Log Home Capital
of North America. In addition the community is host to one of the premier OSB plants in North America. Ainsworth Ltd.
services an international demand for its superior grade product, including approximately 75% of the total Japanese market.
The forestry sector continues to be the anchor of the local economy.
In a global economy, the District recognizes the need for economic diversification and the need for innovation and vision to
maintain and grow our economic base. Building or our rich ranching and agricultural history, the District has partnered to
establish an Agriculture Enterprise Development Center to serve the region.
We in the District are excited with the Initial efforts of the Center, focused on market development for grass fed beef
production, establishing a new meat processing plant, supporting local food production and of particular interest is the real
possibility of a commercialization of locally grown and processed industrial hemp. We believe the industrial hemp project
will open a host of economic opportunities on a national and international stage.
Another project we are excited about is the development of an airpark in the center of the community. Aviators will be able
to fly in and park their planes, literally at their front door and stroll down the street for dinner or simply enjoy the many
shopping opportunities in the downtown core. This is a very a unique development for our region.
As a bustling service center for the whole South Cariboo, including the surrounding resort lake communities, 100 Mile House
has a strong commercial and service-based presence. Investors are choosing the District of 100 Mile House as its center of
business operations because of the availability of services, easy access to various modes of transportation, be it rail, air or
highway.
Equally important; is our clean air, pristine lakes, an abundance of cultural activities and the unparalleled quality of life,
offered in the South Cariboo. These real and intangible assets provide a solid foundation for any individual or corporate entity
considering the South Cariboo to relocate or develop new opportunities.
Our doors are open for business and the District’s competent, skilled, professional staff will welcome you with open arms and
assist in any way possible to make your business activities in the South Cariboo a truly enjoyable experience.
Mayor Mitch Campsall

PORT SHIPPING DISTANCES
The NW Transportation and Trade Corridor ports (Kitimat and Prince Rupert, Stewart) are between 1 and 1 1/2 day closer to general Asia Pacific markets than the Ports in British Columbia’s lower mainland; and the Vancouver Ports. The Southern Ports are closer to the Panama Canal and subsequently, the Atlantic. The following table is in nautical miles. The Time/Speed/Distance Calculations are at 16.1439 Kn/Hr., the average speed The Port of Vancouver uses for calculating their shipping to Yokohama, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung (Taiwan) and Xingang (China). Deep-sea vessels travel at various speeds between 14Kn/Hr and 20Kn/Hr. The ‘great circle shipping route’ to Asia from North America has well documented ocean currents and weather/wind patterns which allows for accurate estimates.
