ShriKula News & Review
CLASS INFO: Beginning Tuesday, February 8, 2011, we will begin our Ashtanga Yoga Mysore Style Open Studio morning practices. ShriKula will be open on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 6am - 8:30am for all you early risers who would like an opportunity to get your yoga practice done before the sun rises. This is a drop-in style class, but please allow a minimum of 30 minutes for your practice. Karla Hopkins, who is a certified yoga instructor and training under Ashtanga Master Teacher Bill Counter, will be Shri's Ashtanga yoga instructor. Our Mysore practice will be much different than our regular classes as that they are self guided through a intermediate/advanced series of Ashtanga Sun Salutations and poses; and done typically in silence. Karla will be available on the floor to assist with alignment and in our Kula Lounge to answer questions.
ShriKula is pleased to welcome Pradeep to our studio and to meet all of our students! Pradeep Teotia takes the ancient practice of yoga and makes it accessible to all. This workshop will include a lecture about basic philosophy as well as an invigorating asana practice that will inspire and move you. All levels of practitioners will enjoy the benefits of this workshop. Pradeep’s very approachable manner lends to an ease in his teach-ing style, which draws many students from different disciplines. Pradeep shares his commitment and pas-
sion for his own practice by using humor and a down to earth approach.

GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY
ShriKula Welcomes the Whitney Wildcats' Swim Team as the
benefactors of the SKY's ATHLETES PROGRAM
PRESS RELEASE: Jan. 27, 2011
ShriKula Yoga is on a mission - a mission to bring the benefits of a regular Yoga practice to Rocklin's student athletes. Although only open since early August 2010, ShriKula committed themselves to this program from the beginning. ShriKula's owner Trish Pietrzak selected Whitney High School to test this program, choosing one team to receive a weekly free private yoga class in her new facility at 1150 Sun-
set Blvd, Rocklin. Last fall (2010), Whitney's Mens Water Polo team was the lucky recipient. Each Fri-day during the season, from 3:15-4:45pm, the team and coach met at ShriKula for a specialized yoga practice. Trish, a certified Yoga instructor and practitioner for over 18 years and former competi-tive athlete, designed a practice that improves athletes focus, breath, flexibility, balance, as well as help them collaborate and synergize as a team. This spring, the Whitney Wild-cats' Swim Team is the benefactor of this program, cross-training over 70 male and fe-male swimmers on the yoga floor weekly. Beginning in the fall of 2011, both Whitney and Rocklin high schools will be eligible for this program.

FLOW INTO THE LIGHT a success story
Last week, ShriKula Yoga hosted Flow Into the Light, a free community yoga event to benefit homeless youth in the greater Placer and Sacramento areas. We brought in five inspiring and talented guest teachers, Jennifer Jarrett from Rusty Wells' Urban Flow Yoga in SF, Armando Luna of Championship Yoga & Fitness in SF, Rachel Meyer of Mandala Yoga in Berkeley, and our very own James Kapicka and Stacy Whittingham, who
each provided an hour's worth of continuous practice for participants - that's right, five hours of yoga, 30 minutes of meditation and kirtan, followed by a com-munity dinner! More than 60 participants took to their mats for the first 2.5 hours and over 55 for the second 3 hours of practice and over 30 of the yogis partici-pated in the full 5.5 hours of yoga! AND donated over 100 gallons of food, 510 gallons of clothing, as well as various blankets, sleeping bags, tarps and inci-dentals that would benefit homeless youth. ShriKula is committed to serving the human spirit through love and action. The business name is from the Sanskrit, meaning Shri - Bliss / Kula - Community, referring to
her studio as the "Blissful Community". The ShriTeam is the heart of this studio, and they seek to support the
greater community in relevant ways, especially during these trying economic times.
