Sandhill cranes have been digging up parts of the course, spraying has continued with not much success. Residents should refrain from feeding wild animals. Warning letters have been sent out by the office to a few residents that have been feeding the birds. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission passed a restriction on feeding wildlife including sandhill cranes effective May 2002. People who are caught feeding these birds and other animals can face steep fines and possible jail time. You can report violators to the Rewards hot line by calling 888- 404-3922. There will be a Golf Association meeting on October 15th at 6:00 pm in the club house. Anyone having suggestions for the club championship should place them in the suggestion box in the caddy shack. Potluck/Oktoberfest The calendar says that summer is over but it’s still pretty warm here. Please come join us for our October potluck which will have an Oktoberfest theme. All residents are welcome to join us on Saturday, October 19th at 5:30 pm in the clubhouse ballroom. Put on your thinking caps and just bring a dish or a dessert from a recipe that is German or a recipe that reminds you of cooler days and falling leaves. We ask that whatever you make be large enough to serve 10 to 12 people. Please see the sign up sheet in the clubhouse as you decide what to make. Also, remember to bring your place settings. We will provide the coffee, tea, ice tea, and lemonade. Come join your friends and neighbors as we get together for a fun meal. After the meal we will have more fun with an activity we can all enjoy. Please call Barbara Holdridge at 779-0419 or Winnie Quartucci at 783-7109 if you have any questions. On another note, we are putting out a help wanted sign. We need someone who likes to get people together to have a good time. We provide the date, time, facilities, etc. You would have the best crew; most enthusiastic, helpful, and fun to work with people you could even know, to help you with whatever ideas you may have. The position is Director of the Social Committee. Please call Barbara Holdridge at 779-0419 if you are interested.

An elderly widow and widower were dating for about five years. The man finally decided to ask her to marry. She immediately said "yes". The next morning when he awoke, he couldn't remember what her answer was! "Was she happy? I think so, wait, no, she looked at me funny" After about an

hour of trying to remember to no avail, he got on the telephone and gave her a call. Embarrassed, he admitted that he didn't remember her answer to the marriage proposal. "Oh", she said, "I'm so glad you called. I remembered saying "yes" to someone, but I couldn't remember who it was."

    Will You Marry Me?

  • A Big Thank You! To all our friends here and out of state, I would like to express a heartfelt and sincere thank you for the cards, phone calls, kind comments, flowers, and prayers that our family has received for my wife Peggy. We are overwhelmed by such thoughtful gestures. I would also like to thank the Bereavement Committee Sandy Fenlock, Phyllis Mathews, and Maryann Danes. A thank you to Martha Campbell, Carla Evans, Val Lebo, Pat Rogerson, Rich Fenlock, and Doug Mathews. You did a wonderful job with the food, table settings, and coordinating the service, and helped us get through a very difficult time. A special thanks to Ed Buns who did a superb job in holding the services, with assistance from Jim Combs. A thank you to the sunshine committee for the donation to the Cancer Society on our behalf. There sure are a lot of nice and thoughtful people here at Southport Springs. Keith Campbell and Family.
