Procedures of our Classroom
WHY DO WE HAVE PROCEDURES? In order to help things run like a well-oiled
machine, there are many procedures that we will teach you and you will practice. We will keep practicing until everyone understands the procedure.
A procedure is the way that we do things. It helps us do things right. For example: To cook a delicious meal, you need to follow the
steps in the recipe. So, to be successful in learning, you need to
follow some simple procedures.
Entering the room…Make sure you have all necessary materials from
your backpack (homeroom).Enter the classroom quietly and go directly to
your seat. Get settled and prepare for the day. (Have
materials ready, have a book to read, turn in papers, etc.)
Immediately start the warm-up.When you finish, read.
Getting Your AttentionIf I need your attention, I will raise
my hand and hold up two fingers, like a peace sign.Stop whatever you are doing at that
moment. Face the teacher and wait silently. No talking or whispering. All of your
attention should be given to the teacher.
If you need to go to the restroom…
Hold up one finger, do not call out. If it is an appropriate time to go, I will
nod.You may not go to the restroom while I
am teaching, unless it is an emergency.I let students go to the restroom who I
can trust to be back quickly, quietly, and without playing.
Water…Please bring a water bottle with a lid to school
everyday.Hydrated minds are smarter and stronger!
Pencils…Pencils are sharpened and ready to
use in the bucket on each table. They belong to the class, and are
not to leave the room.If you run out, hold your pencil in the
air and I will let you get a new one from the box labeled “Pencils” in the closet.
Other Materials…Materials we use often are in the buckets on
each table. They belong to the class and are not to leave the room.
You may use them with permission. If it is an appropriate time, I will give you
permission to use materials out of the closet. You may not get materials from the closet
without permission.
Lining Up…Everywhere we go, we will be in one line.I will call individuals or tables who are ready to line
up. You may not get out of your seat without permissions.
Please give those around you plenty of space.I will only leave the room with classes who are
following all Hill Agreements, have their eyes and feet forward, voices off, and hands and feet to themselves.
Classes who talk in the hall will not get to go to their destination (recess, lunch, PE, etc.)
Hall Passes…With permission from me, you may leave the
room WITH a hall pass.To visit another classroomTo run an errandTo visit the library Help a friend to the nurse
