In week 2 we will be trialling removing our general litter bins from around the school and having students bring home in their lunchbox, any of their lunch litter that cannot be composted or recycled. We will be collecting and auditing all of our Tuckshop litter throughout the course of this week to see how we as a school can improve our practices. We appreciate your support as we trial this for week 2 and see how much we can reduce our waste as a school! The school would like to acknowledge and thank Katie Knickel and Dan Cordner for their successful submission for the grant and also Katie’s continue support to organise our Plastic Free July events. Welcome back to Term 3! So many exciting events happening this term!

Plastic Free July

As a part of Plastic Free July, we have been very lucky in our P&C obtaining a grant to fund

Anthony Hill from Plastic Pollution Solutions to come to our school and present to our

students! On Friday our whole school will be timetabled to attend sessions based around

learning about plastic pollution, how we can reduce our use of plastics and also for our upper

school students, conscious consumption. There will be no Parade on Friday of Week 1 due to

the presentations.

Litter-less Lunch – Week 2

To coincide with Plastic Free July, we will be encouraging ‘litter-less’ lunches in week 2 of this

term. We are encouraging making a conscious choice about how we can make our lunches

and what we consume more environmentally friendly. By using containers or wraps, such as

reusable beeswax wraps or waxed paper wraps, we can reduce the amount of plastic waste

going to landfill. In week 2 we will be trialling removing our general litter bins from around

the school and having students bring home in their lunchbox, any of their lunch litter that

cannot be composted or recycled. We will be collecting and auditing all of our Tuckshop litter

throughout the course of this week to see how we as a school can improve our practices. We

appreciate your support as we trial this for week 2 and see how much we can reduce our

waste as a school!

The school would like to acknowledge and thank Katie Knickel and Dan Cordner for their

successful submission for the grant and also Katie’s continue support to organise our Plastic

Free July events.

Big Thank-You to Amber from Verde for kindly donating Beeswax wraps, stainless steel

straws and bamboo toothbrushes that will be used as prizes and incentives.

Instrumental Music

Lessons for all instrumental music students will commence this week. It is very important that students bring their

instruments every week for their lesson. The Ingham Arts Festival is in Week 6 this term. If your child is performing a

solo at the Arts Festival, please ensure that you are encouraging your child to practice regularly at home. Mrs Wright will

work with the Violin students this week to select songs to play at the Festival.

On Friday 2 August we will have a visiting string group from Townsville visiting us and working with some of the string

students here at the school. They will also be giving us a concert which is very exciting.

Ingham Arts Festival

The Ingham Arts Festival preliminary program is now available to view online at www.inghamartsfestival.org.au.

Other information regarding this year’s competition will also be available through the ‘Ingham Arts Festival Inc.’

Facebook page.

Any students who are interested in entering art, craft and photography sections of this year’s Ingham Arts Festival will

need to return the nomination letter with their $5.00 nomination fee for each section entered to the office by Friday 26

July. Please see the office if you are requiring a copy of this nomination letter.

The completed art works will need to be handed in to Mrs Gunston on Monday 12 August. If you have any questions regarding the Ingham Arts Festival, please see Mrs Gunston.

ILLNESS AND INJURIES

If your student is sick, please keep him/her at home. Please consider your child’s well-being as the school has

limited facilities and personnel to care for sick children. If your child becomes sick at school, the parent or

emergency contact as detailed on the enrolment form will be contacted and asked to collect and sign out the

student and take them home.

Please make sure student information is kept up to date so parents may be contacted if your child is ill or an

emergency occurs. School policy is that the parent/guardian/carer will be contacted in the first instance, however if

necessary the school will make a decision to call 000 for an ambulance.

P&C HappeningsTerm 3 and another busy term for our P&C committee! This term our focus is on our Country

Fair coming up on 17th August – just one month away! Our fundraising co-ordinators, Trudie

and Nicole, have been working behind the scenes for quite a while now, and everything is

running well. Soon we will ask for your assistance to make this night a success.

Firstly, keep the date free! The students will be performing dances on the night, and there

will be yummy food, drink, entertainment and rides so it is sure to be lots of fun for the

family.

Keep an eye out for a more detailed note regarding the Country Fair and where you can help

out in the lead up and on the night. The next meeting for planning of the Country Fair is next

Wednesday 24th July at 7pm in the staff room at the front of the school. Everyone is

welcome.

We would like to find a co-ordinator for the softdrink stall for the night. This will be run by

Year 6 students and profits will be going towards graduation, so it would be great if a Year 6

parent or parent team could get involved. However any volunteer is welcome. Let a

member of the P&C team know, or contact the office.

Aside from the Fair, the P&C is excited to be supporting our school in our move to reduce the

amount of rubbish we produce. This week the school will undergo a waste audit. From there

the P&C team look forward to working with our school and students and hearing ideas on

how we can help our tuckshop move towards reducing the amount of waste it produces.

Thank you to Katie Knickel for her continued work behind the scenes on this, as well as the

supportive and proactive admin and teachers we have at Ingham State School.

Our next P&C meeting is 12th August at 7pm in the Resource Centre. It has been great to see

new faces recently! Everyone is welcome to come along.
