Celebrating Lent and Sacred Triduum 2016 This year Lent begins February 10. During the

Lenten Season, two days of fasting and abstinence are observed: Ash Wednesday, February 10 and Friday of the Passion of the Lord, (Good Friday) March 25. Abstinence is also observed on all Fridays during Lent.

The regulation regarding the Lenten Discipline of fasting calls us to eat only one (1) full meal during the day. Two additional meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids (including milk and juices) are allowed. This discipline is to be observed by those between the ages of 18 and 59.

The Lenten Discipline of ab-stinence calls us to refrain from eating meal, and is to be observed by all who are 14 years of age and older.

A Note from the Administrator...

Estimados amigos:

Por algunos años la iglesia me ha hipnotizó dentro de la cuaresma. Y otros años ya yo he ido voluntariamente y a sabiendo de que era el tiempo para mí en reenfocarme y en respondiéndole a Dios con un SI y con un enfático NO a algunos de mis deseos, lujos, tentaciones e inclinaciones.

Dentro de tres días ya será el miércoles de cenizas. Al tú recibir las cenizas y ya siendo el comienzo de esos cuarenta días, yo espero que reflexiones para estar más en oración, ofrecer más limosnas o hacer más sacrificios. Además, podrías checar lo que la iglesia universal nos pide que hagamos en términos de ayuna (el miércoles de cenizas y el viernes santo) y en la abstinencia (el miércoles de cenizas y los viernes durante la cuaresma).

Además, como parroquia, pedimos a que todos adoptemos LAS OBRAS DE CLEMENCIA (en la casilla más abajo). La primera semana, todo el mundo debe de tratar concretamente en poner en práctica una obra de misericordia. En la segunda semana, todos debemos de tratar de poner en práctica dos obras de piedad. Y así sucesivamente. Para ayudarte en una medida concreta, tomemos una obra de clemencia diferente en cada domingo de cuaresma y así destacar las obras diferentes y específicas que esperas poner en práctica.

Dear friends, Some years the Church has drug me into Lent. Others years I have gone willingly, knowing it was time for me to refocus on saying a clearer YES to God … and a clearer NO to some of my desires, luxuries, temptations and inclinations. Ash Wednesday is three days away. As you take your ashes and begin the forty days, I hope you give some thought to extra prayers, almsgiving or sacrifice. Also, you might check what the universal Church asks us to do in terms of fasting (Ash Wednesday and Good Friday) and abstinence (Ash Wednesday and the Fridays of Lent). In addition … As a parish, we’re asking everyone to em-brace the WORKS OF MERCY (in the box below). For week one, everyone please try to concretely practice one work of mercy. For week two, everyone please concretely to practice two of them. And so forth. To help you get con-crete, we’ll take a different work of mercy on each Sunday of Lent, and highlight specific ways you might put it into practice. Peace, All Good! Fr. Mike

Page Five St. Margaret Mary February 7, 2016 Dear families, this Lent our community at St. Margaret Mary will participate in CRS Rice Bowl, a faith-in-action program that will help you experience Lenten spirituality by living in solidarity with people in need around the world. As we continue our prayerful walk through this Holy Year of Mercy may we come together in prayer reflecting on how we can live this call to mercy more abundantly.

Rice bowls will be distributed after all Masses on February 6/7th. Watch for more in the next week. Estimadas familias, esta prestó a nuestra comunidad en el St. Margaret Mary participará en Bol de arroz de CRS, un programa de fe en la acción que le ayudará a experimentar la espiritualidad cuaresmal viviendo en solidaridad con personas necesitadas alrededor del mundo. A medida que continuamos nuestra caminata orante a través de este año santo de la miseri-cordia podemos venimos juntos en oración reflexionando sobre cómo podemos vivir esta llamada a la misericordia más abundantemente.
