What is STEM Education??
STEM education can be described as an inquiry based, interdisciplinary approach where students apply content knowledge, collaborate, communicate, create, and use critical thinking to solve real world problems and learn about careers in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Use small sticky notes (10 per person).
Think about all the actions that you and your group displayed during the design and redesign stations.
Record each word that comes to mind on a separate sticky note.
• As a group, discuss the words each of you wrote down and place them into categories.
• Use sticky notes to add appropriate titles to the categories formed.
• Gallery Walk- Observe and discuss the words and categories of other groups.
STEM in the Science Classroom(2-day session)
Day 1 – Design Thinking in the Science Classroom Explore design thinking practices including communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. Learn to facilitate problem solving using the Engineering Design Process to make content engaging and relevant for students. Participants will leave with practical ideas for implementation of STEM practices and making in the classroom.
Day 2 – Finding the STEM in the Science TEKS Experience and discuss ways to extend the science TEKS to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) challenges. Discover how to increase rigor and student achievement by providing students with opportunities to apply science concepts to solving real world problems while using 21st century skills.
STEM Topics
• Solve a global problem• Invent something that ____• Create a _____• Start a business that _____• Design a solution for ______• Improve a product or process
It is more than taking something apart! This process requires • careful observation,• disassembly, • documentation, • analysis, and• reporting.

Any other changes to your PreAP Science courses as a result of required CB materials/course changes?
What is your district doing with IPC? Is it offered in 9th? 10th? Who is taking this course?
