2015 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal

This is Commitment Catch-Up Weekend for the 2015

Archbishop’s Annual Appeal. If you missed making your

commitment last weekend, please see a Minister of

Hospitality. The goal set for St. Paul of the Cross for the 2015

Archbishop’s Annual Appeal is $38,300.00. If everyone does

his/her part, we will be able to exceed this goal. It is eight

percent of our parish offertory collection for the fiscal year

ending June 30, 2013. It is calculated using the information

provided from the parish offertory numbers submitted to the

Finance Office after June 30, 2013. If the combined pledges

of individual parishioners/families do not match this goal,

the parish as a whole becomes responsible for the balance of

the payment. It is important to remember that once our goal

is met in cash received, our parish will receive 100 percent of

all additional cash received from those that indicated the

parish’s name on their commitment form. Rebates are sent to

the parish as they come in. Ten percent of the parish rebate

amount is automatically applied to the parish’s endowment in

the Catholic Foundation of North Georgia. THIS YEAR LET

US MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO EXCEED OUR GOAL.

Mass Intentions

My dear Parishioners,

This weekend I shall be away on retreat and Monsignor

Frank J. Giusta, our dear friend, will be celebrating the Eng-

lish Masses. I am deeply grateful to him since he has such a

heavy schedule but has made time to lead this weekend’s

Liturgies. Thank you, Monsignor Giusta!

On the 18th we observe Ash Wednesday and thus usher in the 2015 Lenten Season. In effect, the forty days of Lent

serve as a long retreat for all of us to prepare ourselves for

the celebration of the Sacred Triduum— Holy Thursday,

Good Friday, and Holy Saturday culminating in the glorious

feast of Easter. Unlike Advent, Lent is a longer and calmer,

time, more conducive to quiet reflection during which our

Northern Hemisphere transitions from winter to spring.

Thus, the spiritual season of Lent fits in nicely with nature’s

seasons, for it is truly a time of transition during which we

pull back from some of our ordinary pursuits and focus more

intently on the things that really matter: prayer, self-

sacrifice, and the needs of the less fortunate of the world.

To aid you on your Lenten journey, the parish is providing

each adult with a pocket size daily reflection booklet—Not

By Bread Alone by Jay Cormier, and also the opportunity to

join a small faith-sharing community that meets weekly throughout Lent, beginning this week, to participate in our

Lenten Longings renewal program. The traditional Sta-

tions of the Cross will also be held every Friday at 3:00

p.m., beginning on the 20th. And, of course, through CRS

Rice Bowl, you can add your Lenten donations for the poor

of the world.

My hope and prayer is that all of us will benefit spiritually

from our Lenten pilgrimage. The Church always provides

us with such rich spiritual resources, especially the Lenten

Sunday Scriptures, so suited to challenging our complacency

and compelling us to better ourselves as disciples of Jesus

Christ. Let us use them to our greatest advantage.

Fr. Jerome, C.P.

acercó a Jesús”.

zaremos a vivirla intensamente. Será una Hermosa prepar-

ación para la Pascua.

P. Alberto, C.P.
