WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL - Ironstone...
Transcript of WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL - Ironstone...
Our Year 6 children all have different responsibilities
this year which encourage them to be involved in the
day to day running of our school. The positions of
responsibility include Prefects, Librarians, Eco
Warriors, House Captains, Deputy Head Girl and
Deputy Head Boy. It is our pleasure to introduce our
Head Girl and Head Boy for the 2017 - 2018 school
year, Izzy Taylor-Whyman and Bradley McGouran.
This September has seen 44 new Reception children
starting full time school at Ormesby. The children in
Foxes and Owls have made an excellent start to the
new school year. The teaching staff are very
pleased with how quickly the children have settled
into their new school routines. The children must be
enjoying school, as their attendance has been pretty
good over the first 4 weeks!
Above, you can see our two Reception classes posing
for their first class photographs, don’t they look
gorgeous!?! If you would like to purchase a copy of
your child’s class photograph, which is displayed in
the main reception area, you can order a copy from
the school office. An A4 laminated photograph costs
just £1.
WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL
YYEAR 6
RESPONSIBILITIES
Just to remind you, our uniform is as follows: red
or grey jumper/cardigan, white shirt, grey or black
trousers/skirt and sensible black leather shoes. If
children wear trainer type shoes they must be
completely black. Children may wear a watch and
stud earrings, but no other jewellery may be worn.
Prior to P.E. lessons the children will be asked to
remove all jewellery themselves. I would suggest
that on P.E. days the children do not wear earrings
to school as this avoids hassle and saves time! May
we also remind you that our school P.E. kit is
red shorts and a white t – shirt or polo shirt
(not football strips).
SCHOOL UNIFORM
OUR BRILLIANT BUDDIES
A group of children from Year 5 act as lunchtime
buddies on the KS1 playground. The older children
ensure that our younger children are safe at
lunchtimes by playing games with them and generally
keeping a very close eye on them. Each day, there are
up to 7 buddies supporting the 5 lunchtime supervisors
on the KS1 playground.
You will have noticed some significant changes to site
security since September. The Ormesby Bank and
Church Lane entrances are locked at 9:10am and are
not unlocked until 2:45pm. Any arrivals or departures
between these times, must be through the Henry
Taylor Court entrance. Furthermore, additional
security fencing has been installed to restrict access
to the KS1 and KS2 playgrounds.

UPCOMING DATES & REMINDERS
On the first day back you will have received a copy of
Ironstone Academy Trust’s new Attendance Policy. It
is extremely robust. Leave of Absence in term time
will only be granted in exceptional circumstances and if
your child’s attendance is below 96%, you will receive a
letter from the trust’s Attendance Officer, Mrs Jill
Benson. Our overall school attendance for September
is 96.4%. Our target is above 97%, so we need to
improve! Mr Watson’s class has the best attendance
this month with an attendance rate of 99.4%.
KEEPING OUR CHILDREN SAFE
BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL
We are very happy for children to come to school
on their bicycles and scooters, but please can we
ask that you don’t ride them inside the school
grounds and lock them securely to the racks
provided.
Also, please can we remind children that they are
not allowed to play ball games before or after
school, as there are too many people waiting on
the playground and it is dangerous.
In addition, children are not allowed to play on the
Trim Trail to the side of the KS2 playground, even
if supervised by an adult. It is a ‘NO GO’ zone!
Finally, please do not bring dogs onto the school
site, they must remain outside the school gates.
Thank you for your co-operation.
