WELCOME BACK OPERATING ENGINEERS
2018-2019 WINTERTRAININGSCHEDULE
AMERICAN PRIDE - UNION COMMITTED
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE
2018APPRENTICE GRADUATES!
A message from Training Coordinator Ryan HollinrakeI hope everyone has had a good year both staying safe and busy working. The training season is near-ly upon us and I encourage everyone to sign up for classes to ensure getting the training you need for next season. Ask yourself one simple question: “How can I become a better operator and make myself more employable?” The answer is simple – Training! Whether you are an apprentice or seasoned jour-neyman, training, safety and education pays off with dividends in the end. A skilled workforce is the key to the success of our Local. Remember, this training center belongs to you (the members) and should be utilized by all to improve and expand your skills. By adding to your skill base or by keeping your certifi-cations current, you are making yourself more employable. This year we are adding some new field training courses. A new Advanced Crane Operating and Rig-ging course has been added. During this class, members will learn how to use specialized rigging at-tachments, learn critical lift planning and how to perform two crane lifts. With the increase work load for dirt contractors around the state, we are adding an introduction to scrapers course. The course will cover maintenance, safety, cut/fill operation along with grading.I hate to sound like a broken record, but there was increased demand for trackloader, motorgrader and GPS finish dozer operations. The training fund again this year was able to add 2 new machines. We purchased a new CAT 336 Excavator and a new CAT 953 Trackloader with both bucket and fork attach-ments. I encourage anyone interested to come in for training on those machines so you are ready when the opportunity comes.I believe, that in addition to the basic training required for becoming an Operating Engineer, we need to continue training beyond initial qualifications to maintain, upgrade and update skills throughout our careers, This Training Center is yours, utilize it making an investment not only in yourselves but in the future of the Local. Our apprenticeship program continues to thrive with currently 130 apprentices in the program. This is a direct reflection of the strong work load, the success of the program and the commitment by the jour-neyman in the field to help teach, train and develop apprentices. On behalf of myself and the Trustees, I would like to say THANK YOU for those efforts.I look forward to seeing everyone this training season.
