Students who complete the SHSM requirements receive: an OSSD with red embossed “SHSM” sealSHSM record documenting his/her achievementformal recognition on the Ontario Transcript
There is also growing recognition from Colleges and Universities (e.g., scholarships)
HOW IS SHSM RECOGNIZED?
Learning Support Level ILS1 is implemented through a credit course known as General Learning Strategies – Exceptional (GLE) for formally identified students and is taken in one semester
Students with an Individual Education Plan (I.E.P.):
can earn up to a maximum of 4 GLE credits towards their Secondary School Diploma
are exempt from the compulsory French credit
receive extra time for quizzes, tests, and exams
have access to the Lions' Common Room (L.C.R.) to complete tests or assigned work with the support of a special education teacher
have access to computers, resources, and remedial assistance
Learning Support Level IIEach student receives support from Special Education staff on an “as needed” basis with on-going monitoring and conferencing

…An accelerated English proficiency program that helps English Language Learners to be more successful in secondary school.
ESL courses help English Language Learners to:

CANCER SOCIETY’S ANNUAL DAFFODILS CAMPAIGN
MSS participates every January in the Mississauga Cancer Society’s Daffodils campaign to raise funds for cancer awareness and research.
MSS & THE UNITED WAY OF PEEL
MSS supports the UNITED WAY campaign to raise awareness for the needs of the Peel community and to fundraise to help various Peel charities achieve their annual goals . Activities include silent auctions, bake sales and student performances.
TERRY FOX
MSS, since its opening, has been a supporter of the Terry Fox Foundation. The focus has been on whole-school participation accomplished through the Annual Terry Fox Challenge in which clubs, classes and teams compete in a relay-style 10 kilometer race.
VOLUNTEERING
Like all secondary school students in the province, MSS students are required to complete 40 hours of volunteer service in the community in order to graduate.
