Ultra Electronics is a world leading Defence & Aerospace, Security & Cyber,Transport and Energy company. It was formed in October 1993 with annualrevenue around £84 million (US$139m). The Group has since grown, bothorganically and by acquisition, with revenue in 2017 of £775.4 million andnow has over 4,400 employees based mainly in the UK, USA, Canada andAustralia. Ultra listed on the London Stock Exchange in October 1996 and is in the FTSE 250.

Business performanceUltra’s progress is demonstrated byconsistent profitability since itsformation. The results below havebeen achieved through a proactiveapproach to marketing, investment ininnovative product designs and thedrive for continuous improvement in allareas – not to mention plenty of hardwork! We can point to an impressiverecord of investing in the future ofthe business; in 2016 Ultra invested£146.9m (US$194m) in R&D,acquisitions, new businessdevelopment and facilities.

”Training anddevelopmentAcross the Group we actively supportand invest in training anddevelopment, linked to businessneeds. Each business is responsible foridentifying the training needs of itsemployees and managing its owntraining budget. This typically takesplace through individual employeeperformance and developmentreviews, which are held at leastannually. To support this, we have ourLearning Academy, an online portal,available to all of the Group’sbusinesses, which enables thescheduling of training, hosts onlinecourses and retains the trainingrecords of all employees.

We also run tailored internal trainingand development courses coveringmanagement and leadership. Theseare supported by a variety offunctional workshops, including areassuch as programme management,marketing and systems engineering.
