- Geographically located in the eastern part of Africa
- Has a total surface area of 945,087 sq.km
- With a population of 47.6 million (UN 2012)
- and some of the continent’s greatest concentrations of wild animals

WMA was transformed into an Executive Agency in May 2002. Formerly, it was a department within the Ministry of
Industry and Trade
The governing legislation for weights and measures activities is the Weights and Measures Act Cap 340 [R.E 2002], but The new Legal Metrology Act is now being developed
