The 30-share BSE Sensex surged 456.17 points or 1.76 percent to 26316.34 and the 50-share NSE Niſty jumped 148.80 points or 1.87 percent to 8114.30. Spot gold was down 0.8 percent at USD 1,173.56 an ounce by

0231 GMT. Earlier in the session, the metal dropped 1 percent

to mark its lowest since February 8 at USD 1,171.21 per ounce.
