DISPERSAL OF MONTBELIARDE COWS AND HEIFERS

A LATHAM, PARK FARM, CHOLMONDELEY Halls are delighted to offer Andy Latham herd of Montbeliarde X Cattle through our weekly Dairy sales throughout 2019. Andy has made the choice to change his farming policy, with long standing workman Kit Hopley nearing his retirement and reliable replacement staff increasingly hard to find Andy feels the time is right for change. He will remain at the farm and rear heifers on contract. About 10 years ago Andy saw the advantages of cross breeding his Herd of Holstein Cows, with a bit of Brown Swiss, Shorthorn and Swedish Red blood he soon found his favourite cross was the Montbeliarde and hence with the odd exception Montbeliarde semen has been exclusively used for the last 7 years from Genus ABS bulls include Redon, Timor, Triomphe, Dundee, Massolino, Sir and Valfin, current service sires are Dolley, Helux, Guronzon and Jeremiah. Beef services have been British Blue (AI) and the use of British Blonde Sweeper Bulls. The herd has been completely closed for 10 years, the only exception being the sweeper bulls which are bred literally on the other side of the hedge. The use of AI semen via the Genus ABS stud has provided a powerful cow with width durability and milk, the herd is not individually recorded, it is a simple system, cubicle housed in winter, out at grass in summer with cake in the Herringbone parlours but the latest rolling averages:-
