Hey you --- yes you! What are you doing during the COVID-19 aftermath?

The Town of Walkerville wants to know what our businesses and residents are up to as we make our way through the recovery stage of COVID-19.

Have you been busy creating artwork with your children? Have you started walking your dogs more regularly around the area (we know we have!)? Has your business reopened and your staff are simply enjoying interaction with their customers? Send us your photos via Facebook or to [email protected] and we will promote within our community – we would love to share what you've been up to!

The plan includes a declaration from the owner regarding venue capacity, social distancing, the one person per 4sq/m rule and a maximum of 20 members of the public per separate room or area.

Administration is continuing to promote businesses which are still trading, or reopening their doors during this time, to our community under the Shop Local campaign Still working in Walkerville. Please email us if would like to be included.

Capital Works Update Drainage Works at corner of Devonshire Street and Lansdowne Terrace.

Works commenced on Tuesday 9 June 2020 to improve drainage at this intersection.

Works include new side entry pits, a kerb protuberance and new drainage lines. Devonshire Street drainage has caused minor flooding issues across Lansdowne Terrace, particularly in autumn due to leaf litter blocking pits. This work will ensure stormwater is collected before it enters Lansdowne Terrace.

Nearby residents have been notified.

Ilford Street Bus stop DDA compliance work.

The existing bus stop No 14, in Ilford Street Vale Park is currently not DDA compliant.

Works commenced on Tuesday 9 June 2020 to rectify the non-compliance.

The bus stop concrete pads will be renewed, with correct tactiles and levels. The kerb will be re-laid on the inbound side to allow gradients to be made compliant across the bus stop.

Footpath in the immediate area will be renewed as part of the footpath program. This area is very flat and water can pool on footpaths. We are installing permeable paving in this area to assist with local drainage.

The shelter will be turned 180 degrees so patrons using it will be able to look out for approaching busses. This is also part of the DDA compliance requirements.

Nearby residents have been notified.

Herbert Street Reconstruction

Reconstruction of Herbert Street, Medindie, continues. Work involves reconstruction of all footpaths, all driveways and the complete road, to match the recently reconstructed work in The Avenue. Traffic controls, including road closure for through traffic, are in place.

Temporary 2-hour parking controls are now incorporated in Hawkers Road to allow for school drop-off and pick-up during the works. Work will start at 7am and finish by 5pm. Works are expected to be completed mid-June 2020. Reused bluestone is being used on the northern kerb, with new bluestone on the southern side.

Street sweeping helps keep the Township clean Additional autumn leaf collections have commenced within the township.

The street sweeper will be focusing on streets where there is significant fallen organic leaf matter. Officers are inspecting streets and adding to the list as required, this list changes week to week subject to the amount of leaf litter present.

This not only keeps our streets looking clean and tidy, it also helps protect our environment by removing leaf litter and debris before they enter the stormwater system. It also reduces the chance of flooding in the event of heavy rain and importantly clean streets ensuring our roads are safe for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

Our sweeper has to stop to spread materials that have been placed into piles. While we appreciate the efforts of residents to pile leaf litter, our street sweepers cannot pick up these piles. Leaving the leaf litter spread in the gutter helps keep our sweepers moving.

Our street sweeping programs are seasonally adjusted to effectively manage the level of risk in streets where issues are present generally relating to street tree litter.

Dog Registration Renewals and Microchipping records for 2020/2021 Have you recorded you pet’s details in DACO? Dogs and Cats Online (DACO) is a statewide database for registering dogs and cats, and recording their microchipping and desexing details, and for registering breeders, in accordance with the Dog and Cat Management Act 1995.

South Australian law requires www.dogsandcatsonline.com.au to be updated within 14 days, if ownership of a dog or cat has been transferred.

As we are fast approaching Dog registration renewals for 2020/21, and in preparation for receiving your renewal notices, please ensure that:

• if you have moved house in the last 12 months or changed your contact details to login to www.dogsandcatsonline.com.au and update your details.

• if you didn’t receive your renewal notice last year you may wish to update how you receive the notice, you can select from post, email or SMS.

• If your dog or cat has passed away to update your animals status.

• If your dog or cat has been desexed and or microchipped to upload these details

Do you have a Cat or Kitten with a microchip? Town of Walkerville do not currently have cat registrations, however it is a requirement of the Dog and Cat Management Act 1995 that all cats be microchipped and that their microchip details are recorded in Dogs and Cats Online. Microchipping is a safe and permanent way to identify your cat and ensures Council Officers are able to reunite you with your cat if they ever become lost or is impounded.

How to register a dog or cat as a new owner or transfer a registered dog or a cat to a new owner The Dog and Cat Management Board have created a range of easy reference guides available for the public on how to complete a microchip record, how to transfer a dog or how to register a new dog or cat to name a few. These guides can be found on their website dog and cat management board or contact our Customer Experience Team for assistance on 8342 7100.
