TODAY …

A very warm WELCOME to all who are worshipping with us -- especially if you are visiting Napier or at the Cathedral for the first time.

ENVIRONMENT-JUSTICE-PEACE NETWORK

Next meeting: Sunday 7th

July, 3.00pm in the “Youth” room

(upstairs to the right just inside the main foyer).

THANKSGIVING SUNDAY

Today we follow up last week’s

“Thanksgiving Sunday” by returning our

commitment pledge. Only a third of

those on the Parish Roll currently give

regularly. If we could double that number

then the Cathedral could afford more

than a single full time clergy stipend, and

offer a lot of other ministry initiatives.

The completed pledge tear-off section

from the brochure should be placed in an

envelope marked “Parish Recorder” and

may be placed in the offertory bag today

or next Sunday or delivered to the Parish

Office. An indication of your financial

commitment assists the Vestry plan a

budget for the coming year. Thank you.

THE CHANCEL RAMP

A couple of weeks ago we launched a

campaign to raise $5000 to go towards

the cost of building a ramp up to the

chancel in order to allow wheelchairs and

anyone who finds the steps a challenge.

We are very grateful to some very gener-

ous people who have enabled us to reach

our target so quickly. Plans have been

drawn by the Draughtsman and submitted

to the Napier City Council for building

consent!

VERGER TO RETIRE

Malcolm, our long serving verger, has de-

cided to retire at the end of July after 16

years on the job. He’s played a huge

role in keeping the cathedral going

through some hard times and his willing-

ness to pitch in and walk many extra

miles is widely respected and valued.

There will be a chance to express our ap-

preciation more formally but happily Mal-

colm has offered to continue helping out

when needed as a volunteer. Such is the

measure of the man.

Living Stones

This is a 40-page booklet of inside stories about the cathedral and its treasures, including the plaques in the soon to be completed Heritage Hallway on the south side. Bishop John compiled it with lots of help. It includes the text of the address he made to launch the booklet on Friday night at the parish dinner.

Copies are available for $5 each to over production costs, or buy two and get one FREE! (ie 3 for $10). A great gift to give people who share your love of this place, or even just a little curiosity.

NEW DEAN FOR WELLINGTON

The appointment of Wellington Cathe-

dral’s new Dean was announced this

week - the Rev’d Digby Wilkinson, aged

49. The team charged with finding the

new dean are celebrating Digby’s ac-

ceptance of the job. They’re also freely

acknowledging that he’s an unusual

choice … he is completing six years lead-

ing Palmerston North’s Central Baptist

Church (last service to be on Christmas

Day) before being installed as Dean of

the Cathedral early January.

Although Digby has spent the larger part

of his 20 years of ministry in the Baptist

Church, he is an Anglican priest! He was

ordained By Bishop John Bluck in 2006 at

Holy Trinity, Tauranga.

Digby and Jane Wilkinson have three chil-

dren: Mitchell, who is 20, Elliot, 17 and

Lucy, 11.
