Weekly Newsletter – KG2
Kindly note that the following concepts will be taught during Week 19 (27-31 Jan).
All these concepts are expected to be reinforced at home through daily practice.
BIG Question:What makes the sea so important? In Unit 4, your child will explore the big question. Your child is invited to think about the importance of the
ocean to people, animals and plants (all living things). Your child will also read stories about life beside, on, and
under the sea, as well as learn about seashells, sailing, submarines and coral reefs.
MATHEMATICS 1. Vocabulary: add, in all, one more, more than one, plus sign (+), equal sign (=),

Recognize and write numbers 0 to 10. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0-10.
Count by ones from 1 to 100.
Count to answer “how many?” questions about as many as 10 things; given a number from 1-10, count
out that many objects.
Represent addition and subtraction with objects, fingers, mental images, drawings, sounds, (e.g., claps),
acting out situations, verbal explanations, expressions, or equations.
Solve addition and subtraction word problems, and add and subtract within 10, e.g. by using objects or
drawings to represent the problem.

Recognize double vowel sounds ‘oa’ and ‘ie’ – boat, soap, goat, pie, tie, lie.
Identify the initial sound as being the first / beginning sound in a word – dog, pin, hen, cat, snake, rock).

Count, pronounce, blend and segment syllables in spoken words – bus =1, rock/et =2, Sa/tur/day =3.
3. Writing:
Write names, letters, words and sentences in the correct formation, using three lines and punctuation.
4. Book Skills and Comprehension:
What is an author (person who writes the story)? What is an illustrator (a person that draws, that colors,
that paints the illustrations, or who takes the pictures)?
What do the pictures tell you about the story? Who are the characters in the story? Where did the story
take place (setting)? What is the main idea of the story?

every day and books will only be exchanged for new ones if the old ones are returned.

Plants and Animals: 1. What do animals need to survive?
Ex; water, food, air, shelter.
2. Where do animals live (habitats)?
Ex. arctic, desert, savanna, grassland, ocean, river,
lake, pond, mountain, forest, jungle, garden, etc.
3. What is a Veterinarian?
Veterinarians are animal doctors. They take care of
all kinds of animals.
4. How do plants and animals change the
environment?
Ex. sidewalks and streets break apart when roots
grow and poke through, caterpillars eat leaves and
then it has holes, termites move soil to build a
mound, alligators use dry grass to build a nest, etc.
SOCIAL STUDIES Students will explore America and must be able to:
identify the map of America.
recognize the national flag.
recognize that there are 50 States in America.
identify the 4 significant presidents of the USA.
Ex; George Washington, Abraham Lincoln,
Theodore Roosevelt, Thomas Jefferson.
identify national symbols.
Ex; bald eagle, liberty bell, emblem, etc.
