Bob’s Thoughts...

God Is My Portion

“Whom have I in Heaven but you? And there is none upon the earth that I desire beside you. My Flesh and my heart fail:

but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion forever!” Psalm 73:25-26

King David was a valiant warrior, a strong leader and a successful King. But, he, too, had his difficulties. Throughout the Psalms, he very candidly described his fears and failures. Most of us know what that’s like. There are times when we feel like we’re pressed to the limit. We’ve gone and gone until we just don’t think we can go on any-more. The truth is we can’t! Our flesh and our heart have given out. We have given it all we’ve got, only to end up ex-hausted and discouraged. Our physical resources are just not enough! Therefore, we lose heart and all of our sincere drive and determination vanishes away. King David knew this feeling quite well. However, the story doesn’t end there, which is why he added, “But God….” God makes all the difference! King David was careful to point out the source of his life - the Lord God Almighty! It was God who enabled David to face and overcome his many obstacles. God is the Source and He is no respecter of persons. Therefore, what He has done for others He will do for you! Let’s find out how. What was the secret to King David’s success? It was God, plain and simple! Notice David’s attitude toward God. He declared that God was his portion. David was saying that God is all I have, all I need, and all I want! So what’s your portion? What is it that you’re depending upon to meet your needs? If it is not God, and God alone, it is not enough! David came to the firm conclusion and settled conviction that all he desired, whether in Heaven or on Earth, was the Lord God Himself. Nothing else really matters. God is all there is! Perhaps that’s why the Apostle Paul referred to Jesus Christ as our all in all! Are you there yet? Who is your Source? Who is your portion?

Have a Great Week!

Bob

The Family Life…

Watchmen on the Wall Don't forget to sign up for our Watchman on the Wall program which will begin again next month. Please sign up even if you have already been a Watchman. Being a Watchman gives our mature members who don't have children an opportunity to mentor and disciple one or two children and their families. All participating children will paired up with new Watchman for the next two-year cy-cle. Of course, if you have been a Watchman, the new cycle doesn't mean you can't continue your relationship with your current child! It just means your "family" is expanding! Forms are available in the office or at the ta-ble in the Fellowship Hall.
