Rev. Matthew Fernandez, MMHC June 10, 2018 “Be still and know that I am God”

–Psalm 46:10 As I was about to leave the office for lunch

break I heard the chatter of the children having their lunch at the lunch tables. As I observed them they were constantly moving. There were those who continuously dangle their feet while eating for their legs were too short to reach the ground. There was also one boy pretending to be driving a sports car while mimicking the sound it makes as he was driving. On one corner there were those who were playing rock, paper, scissors. A few of them were playing with their water bottles. There was even a girl who suddenly stood up and started dancing. Most of them were constantly moving their lips ei-ther chewing their food or talking. They all seemed to be a bundle of kinetic energy. Grown-ups are no different from the children maybe they could no longer keep up with the children but everyone is still active. Some are so busy with work while others are busy trying to entertain themselves with technology or hobbies they fancy. There are also some who worry about their future while others about their past. There are those who try to solve all problems or fix everything and others who just keep going against the system. While it is good to do the best in everything we do, with the constant activity of the mind and/or body a lot of people end up being stressed out, exhausted, confused, sometimes frustrated or even depressed. In this kind of disposition even our prayer is affected. We may not even be aware that sometimes we act as if we are God’s boss in prayer for there are times when we tell God what to do. To this the Psalmist has a wonderful antidote… “Be still and know that I am God”. In our busy schedule let us not forget to allot some time to be still and recognize God. It is in still-ness that we recognize God at work in us and in the world and he does wonderful works. It is in stillness that God is able to guide us and lead us to what is best for us. It is in stillness that we find rest for our minds, hearts, and souls. Be still my mind from over thinking or worrying too much…God has all the solutions. Be still my heart from desiring too much… God will fill you and bring contentment. Be still my soul from trying to achieve too much or trying too much to be perfect… God will bring our weakness and imperfection to perfection.

"Quédate quie-to y sabed que yo soy Dios".

DID YOU KNOW?

Safety trumps good manners As parents/caregivers, we teach children to say “please” and “thank you,” to play nicely, and to respect other adults. It is also key to stress the importance of safety, and let children know that it is okay to be impolite if they feel threatened or scared. Children shouldknow that it’s okay to say “NO” if someone is asking them to do something they don’t feel comfortable doing, and that setting boundaries by saying things like -- “Don’t touch me there,” or “I don’t like that” -- are not rude, but in fact necessary for their safety. ¿SABIA USTED?
