P&F News

Registrar’s RaveTime is ticking by as I hand over to Roslyn so please bear with us if we are slow in returning calls or communicating with you as we work through our handover.

q q q As usual Term 4 has really kicked off quickly but I have to return to Term 3 for a moment.

q q qI have been remiss not to mention the 2nds Netball team who last term actually WON their Grand Final. This team against all odds and changes in coach demonstrated the true spirit of sportsmanship and determination. All girls played a very active part in their training twice a week and a huge commitment every Saturday. This was never more evident than when they hit Scots in the semifinal and played a very tight match from which they came out victorious. On they went to the Grand Final with all guns blazing each of them like a dog with a bone. Once again they showed their true tenacity and Netball skills whether shooting, defending or attacking, and became the Grand Final WINNERS. Congratulations to you all - Rosie Barnett, Camilla Barton, Emily Haworth, Kiah Roebuck, Grace Meulman, Katie Menzies, Katie Schwab, Jess Carter, Lauren Kelly and your supporters. I look forward to hearing what happens next year!

q q qOrientation Day: Friday, 6 November commencing 9:00am Parents will be required to be here until 11:30am and return for the Chapel Service at 2:30pm. Details ARE following shortly. Thank you for your patience!

q q qDon’t forget the change of details form on the website.

q q qThe Equestrian meeting unfortunately did not eventuate at the end of last term apart from Mark Chalker (thank you Mark). We desperately need ot get organised with this. I was hoping to be able to circulate all the upcoming events so will try and email them to you all.Suggestions for a date to get together before I move on would be great. Please let me know what could work for you all.

Until next week ... Jane

Belltower Official OpeningSATURDAY, 31st OCTOBER, 2009 AT 11 AM

Anticipation is building as Bathurst prepares for the official opening of the All Saints’ Cathedral Belltower on Saturday, 31st October at 11am. The bells are in place and have been rung several times now since the inaugural ring on 26th June. Finishing touches are currently being made to the tower in preparation for the big event.Governor to Open the TowerWe are delighted to have the Governor of NSW, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir, AC, CVO, to officially open the new belltower. Professor Bashir has always been a great supporter of life in regional NSW and we look forward to her participation in this historic event. The ceremony will be conducted in Church Street at the entrance to the tower. Her Excellency, the Governor, will open the tower by the cutting of a ribbon and the unveiling of a plaque. This will be followed by the Dedication of the Tower by the Anglican Bishop of Bathurst, The Right Reverend Richard Hurford OAM, who will be assisted by other church leaders. The Dedication will include our local bellringers ‘sounding’ each bell as they are called forth to ring. Following the Dedication, a select team of bellringers from the Australian and New Zealand Association of Bellringers will ring the inaugural Quarter Peal, which will take around 50 minutes. This will be followed by teams of ringers from across Australia and overseas having the opportunity to ring the bells throughout the afternoon. The day will be completed in the evening when the famous Australian a cappella ensemble, The Song Company, will conduct a recital of Spanish religious music in the Cathedral from 7:30pm.

The P&F AGM will be held in the Library on Tuesday November 24th at 5:45 pm At that meeting all executive positions will be delared vacant and notice is given that nominations in writing need to be submitted to the office before that date. The nominations should be signed by both the nominator and nominee and addressed to Robyn Scrivener, P & F Secretary.

Peru's diverse landscapes and colourful history are worthy of intimate exploration. This itinerary does just that combining the historical and natural attractions with a trek along the classic Inca Trail and a fascinating and worthwhile community project. The range of highlights begins in Lima where we gain a fascinating insight into Peru's history with visits to the well adorned museums and galleries. Next, we cruise to the Ballestas Islands (Peru's Galapagos) taking in the marine mammals and birdlife, then continue to the fascinating Nazca Lines. From Arequipa, the beautiful 'white city' where the 16th century Santa Catalina convent is located, our journey continues to the Colca Canyon, the deepest in the world, where significant numbers of butterflies and condor proliferate. The cultural section of our itinerary concludes with a homestay with the Uros Indians on Lake Titicaca, followed by our exploration of Cusco and the Sacred Valley where we are presented with a living day collection of the Inca legacies. It is in the Sacred Valley in a small village called Tastay oq where we spend 2 days working alongside the locals on a variety of tasks such as assisting in the construction of the small school library, helping out in their community run greenhouses or giving some lessons in the school. This time will be rewarding and fascinating, and maybe even a little hard work!
