We are proud to say here at Weekend Warrior that this is our very first issue! Our goal is to have many more issues to come. We want to unite Denver with Colo-

rado’s striking Rocky Mountains. Weekend Warrior is to call atten-tion to all you people that bust your ass off during the week, and can let loose on the weekend! Weekend Warrior wants to bring more to the party with you on our mind. We travel all across Colorado to let you know where the best parties are!

In our winter issue we wrap up our Natural Attraction article featuring Icelantic’s First SIA Convention in Denver Colorado. We know that in order to party, and get first chair in the morning, you need to be in killer shape… In our magazine we take pride in giving you the best off mountain workouts and have featured Yoga instructors like Montana Neiley.

WE LIKE TO PARTY! Our concept is to bring the party to you across Colorado. A Weekend Warrior is a person who works really hard during the week and then can play really hard on weekends! TIPS AND TRICKSBe sure you have adequate snow tires. If you have a car with bald tires, when your car hits snow packed roads it won’t create traction. This will cause your car to spin out. Drivers should get new tires every two years. If you have four-wheel drive, be sure all four wheels are engaged. If your vehicle is rear-wheel drive, place sand bags in the trunk to increase traction. Allow plenty of distance between your car and other vehicles so you have time to react if they lose control. On a road that is snow packed, icy or wet it takes twice the distance to stop than on dry surfaces. Also allow longer stopping distances if you have anti-lock brakes. Be courteous: Allow other drivers to merge and pass safely.Reduce your speed when approaching intersections. Anticipate light changes. Don’t accelerate through yellow lights.Take special care when crossing bridges, which tend to freeze more quickly.Have your vehicle checked before winter to ensure it is mechanically correct.Drive slowly, leave early and drive defensively at all times.Obey traffic-control devices. The presence of snow or ice is not a good defense if you are involved in a collision. Be sure your windshield wiper reservoir is filled with ant-freeze wiper solution, and make sure your windshield wipers are in good condition. Take time to warm up your car, and allow defrosters to clear all windows. Also make sure to clean headlights and rear lights.Use your headlights at all times. It helps other drivers see you and decreases your chances of a collision.Advise people of your travel time and routes.

TRAFFIC DELAYSDue to heavy traffic on the weekends The Eisenhower tunnel has been closing the tunnel every twenty minuets. The reason is to make sure there is enough space for emergency vehicle to get through. From Silverthorne to the tunnel takes about an hour. A suggestion is to take Loveland Pass. On Sundays it takes two and a half hours to get from Silverthorne to Denver. A suggestion is to wait out the traffic and leave the mountains around seven or eight.

GET OUT OF TRAFFIC!!!Wait out the traffic; at The Plume Saloon every weekend from 3 till 6 for great drink specials. Silver Plume is located between Baskerville and Georgetown where traffic is the heaviest. All you have to do is take exit 226, hang a left, take a left on Main Street and you will see The Plume Saloon on your left. Bring in this coupon and you will get your first drink free! And remember drinking a beer by a nice cozy fireplace beats sitting in traffic any day!

This year at the 2010 SIA trade show, a Colorado local ski compa-ny Icelantic, blew their competitors out of the water! Icelantic had an amazing response from shops, reps

and fan across the world. With an awesome SIA booth, parties at the Icelantic Gallery and their own Living Legends concert; Icelantic proved to everyone you can have a great time while selling the _____ out of skis!

SIA Snow Show went on Thursday, January 18th through Sunday January 31st. For the past five years SIA was always held in Sin City, Las Vegas. This year The Colorado Convention Center in Denver held the first SIA convention. Rants, Raves and Parties took Denver by storm. Over 20,000 people affiliated in the Ski and Snow-board industry came to Denver to do a little business and a lot of partying!

Through out our country’s recession Icelantic has proven to everyone that even though the economy sucks, they can still sell skis! Icelantic has been around for five years. Ben Anderson, the founder of Icelantic, left collage in Washing-ton to pursuit his passion of making skis. At Icel-

antic’s first SIA Convention people in the indus-try though Icelantic skis were a joke. Icelantic first modeled started out with powder skis that were really wide and short. This year the ski’s art, performance, and aura made people at SIA realize what a great company Icelantic really is.

Icelantic’s Gallery is located on 8th and Santa Fe, in the heart of the Santa Fe Art district. Hav-ing this year SIA in downtown Denver was an amazing boost for Icelantic. The Icelantic skis drew a lot of well-deserved notice by people through the industry. At the Convention center Icelantic, had a 2,000 square foot booth, which consisted of a full bar, back meeting lounge and a huge display of the 2010-2011 skis.

Now if the SIA Convention wasn’t enough, ICELANTIC presented “Welcome to Colo-rado” Party. On Friday January 29th, The Og-den Theatre (located on Colfax and Ogden) opened their doors to thousands of people who appreciate the sport of skiing and snow-boarding. The Living legends and special guest The Umconscious played an epic show.

The Concert was collaboration between five Colorado companies, Icelantic, Optic Nerve, Never Summer Snowboards, Hestra Flylow and AEG LIVE. There where tons of free give always, including a pair of 2010 Icelantic Shaman Skis. Nichole Sjoden (long time friend of Icelantic) was in charge of getting the crowd pumped and making sure everyone was having a great time. She threw out tons of swag to the audience like Icelantic t-shirts and beanies.

The concert was a great success for icelantic. It got people thinking how cool Icelantic is for getting people like “The Living Legends” to play a show for them. This concert was the talk of the SIA Conven-tion for days after. Not only did Icelantics front man Sam Warren get over five hundred bottles of liquor donated to the party but he also got a bunch swag to give out to the fans.

The Living legends are great friends with Icelantic. They played an amazing show at the Ogden. The Living Legends crew is a family of in-dependent hip-hop creators. Coming from Los Angeles and Oakland, the Legends extend worldwide and beyond. The Living Legends con-sist of eight independent hip-hop artists that came together in the early 90’s. The artists are Aesop, Bicasso, Eligh, The Grouch, Luckyiam, Murs, Scarub, and Sunspot Jonz. All in all, this crew of motivated do-it-yourselfers has sold over 200,000 albums collectively. They have

played thousands of shows through out the world but the concert that Icelantic put blew other shows out of the water.

The “Welcome to Colorado” Party concert got people in the industry, to step back and take a good look at what Icelantic is capable of. The outcome of the show was awesome. It ended up being sold out, and all of the fans where re-ally impressed. Icelantic got amazing responses from fans and people in the industry that the Icelantic crew can threw awesome parties and sell the %#^& out of skis!

Stand with feet hip-width apart and hold a med ball or dumbbell. Squat as low as you can (knees behind toes and abs contract-ed) and touch the ball to the floor. Press through the heels to press back up while sweep-ing the weight up and overhead. Keep the movement controlled and try not to use momentum.

Stand with feet together. Bend the knees and jump to the right as far as you can, think of jumping lat-erally rather than vertically. Land with soft knees and immediately jump laterally to the left. Repeat.

In pushup position (on knees or toes), perform one pushup. As you come up, shift weight to left arm, twist to the side while bringing the right arm up to-

wards the ceiling in a side plank. Lower the arm back to the floor for another pushup and then twist to the other side.

Stand with feet wide, toes out slightly, holding weight at chest level. Lunge to the right, bending the right knee (keeping that knee behind the toe) and touching the weight to the floor

while keeping the abs engaged, torso straight. Press back to start and lunge to the left, touching the ball to the floor. Take your time and try not to use momentum.

Stand on right leg taking the left leg straight out be-hind you, both leg and torso parallel the floor. Bring the right elbow up next to your torso while holding a

weight and, maintaining your balance, extend the elbow until the arm is straight by contracting the triceps. Maintain this position for all kickbacks and then switch sides.

Santa Fe Drive has had a long history of artists and artist’s studios. In recent years many galleries and artist’s studios began to move into the area as rents in other parts of Denver rose. In 2003 a group of about 17 galleries, museums and theatres organized the ArtDistrict on Santa Fe as a non-profit corporation with the following mission statement:“The ArtDistrict on Santa Fe is dedicated to promoting public awareness of Santa Fe Drive as a unique art and cultural district, and furthering the arts and art education in the metropolitan community.”

Since 2003 membership in the ArtDistrict (now officially called “Denver’s ArtDistrict on Santa Fe”) has grown to over 50 members on and around Santa Fe Drive between 5th and 11th Avenues. The rise in membership and activity on Santa Fe Drive has been a grass-roots success story. The members of the ADSF continue to like and cooperate with each other without undue pretension. This has helped create and maintain the friendly and welcoming feel of the street.

The ADSF works with other neighborhood organizations such as NEWSED and the Maintenance District to improve and beautify the area. For example, the ADSF and NEWSED split the cost of the street banners; the Maintenance District teams with the ADSF to tackle graffiti and to beautify the streets and sidewalks.

In order to accommodate the First Friday Art Walk crowds and alleviate parking concerns, the ADSF runs a shuttle bus sponsored by Denver law firm Otten Johnson. The shuttle runs between the Osage RTD Light Rail Station, West High School parking lot, and the ArtDistrict on Santa Fe from 5:30 to 9:30 PM every First Friday.

The ADSF is growing as related and complementary businesses such as architects, yoga studios, furniture and lighting stores, book stores, radio stations, restaurants and coffee shops are moving into the neighborhood. New full time residents are moving in as well.

Denver’s ArtDistrict on Santa Fe has gained attention in the national press in recent years. Publications include Sunset Magazine, Desert Living, and Travel + Leisure Magazine. In addition, the cities of Cleveland, Ohio, Sacramento, California and Glendale, Arizona recently contacted the ADSF to learn how to create a successful art district in their cities. The ADSF’s continuing membership in the Denver Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau has contributed to its growing cultural tourism business.

The upcoming year for Denver’s ArtDistrict on Santa Fe will emphasize art collecting, education and working artist studios. ADSF will have a prominent role in Denver’s Arts Week in November 2008 with informative art lectures and artist talks. Denver’s ArtDistrict on Santa Fe continues to grow as new galleries are moving to the area to become part of the vibrant art scene.

5) VERTIGO exhibits a range of artists from local to national, established to emerging, and mentor to student. The work that has been seen at VERTIGO can be labeled as abstract, modern or conceptual, though

there are no limitations. The space was built to accommodate 2D, 3D, and installation works, each show may create a different challenge than the last both perceptually, and structurally.

6) SPARK Gallery is celebrating 30 years as a cooperative, non-profit gallery showing contemporary art. We showcase local artists working in a wide variety of media. A DJ will be spinning all day, free food will be available for all participants, and additional prizes will be awarded at random to those who impress the judges. Garfinkel’s in Lionshead is hosting the after-party sponsored by Coors and Rock Star Energy Drink. Malay Day is open to all ages, genders and disciplines. Participants must register for the contest at the Golden Peak Lodge from 9 – 10 a.m. on April 10.
