THE ROSARY IN MAY
Pope Francis, concerned about the terrible suffering of the innocent as the war in Syria continues, and with hope that the possibility of nuclear disarmament may happen between North and South Korea, has asked all the Catholics of the world to pray the rosary each day of the month of May. May, as you know, along with October, is particularly dedicated to Our Blessed Mother Mary. So I encourage all of us to pray the rosary for these two intentions each day. Peace is our prayer. And Our Blessed Mother’s intercession with her Son is of course powerful. “Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now.” JFH
The Crowning of Mary will be held on Monday, May 14th after the 9 a.m. Mass by the students of Holy Family School.
Booklets and pamphlets on Mary and the rosary are available in the foyer. Also available are pamphlets for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Prayer activities for summer vacation. Please help yourself.

GRAND ANNUAL COLLECTION
Beloved, peace! You know me well enough that I am always on the edge of worry about the Grand Annual Collection. No longer so. We are at a total of $107,653 or 67.2% of our goal of $160,000. So thank you all who have given so far. And please, everyone, if you haven’t yet had the chance to give I encourage your generosity because we still need $52,347 to meet our goal. Thanks for bearing up with my constant chatter. I know, You think of it as a bit of game. Maybe so. But perhaps awareness makes us consistent and generous givers.
God bless! JFH
BREADS AND WINE
The Breads and Wine for the month of May are in memory of June, Norman and B. Paul MacDonald lovingly donated by their family.
SECOND COLLECTION ON MAY 20TH

SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
FAMILY NOTES, VII Sunday of Easter, May 13, 2018 Dear friends, peace! PRAYER As disciples of Our Lord Jesus we are invited to imitate Him. Today in the Gospel we witness an elementary facet of the life of Our Lord: prayer. We know that He taught us to pray. We have seen his taking time apart to pray. And now here in John’s 17th chapter Jesus extensively prays to His Father. So prayer must be at the center of our imitation of Christ. CORNELIUS’ PRAYER Prayer opens us up to God. The prayerful person will be guided by God. Last weekend the centurion Cornelius is described as devout and “God-fearing”, that is, someone who had come to believe in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob but was not (yet) a part of the Chosen People of Israel. Most importantly he had come to the point in his life where he “used to...pray to God constantly” (Acts 10:2). During his prayer an angel comes to him saying, “Your prayers and almsgiving have ascended as a memorial offering before God” (4). Directed to send for Simon Peter, who at the same moment was also in prayer and experiencing a vision, Cornelius and his whole household are both blessed with conversion but also the gift of Holy Spirit leading to their being baptized. This is a turning point in the life of the early Church: a Gentile, Cornelius was Italian, becoming a Christian opens the Church to preach salvation to all humanity as Our Lord had directed. Judaism was only the incubator of the Faith. Ultimately guided by Holy Spirit the Church moved beyond Judaism and became the Church of all nations. And this revelation in the life of the Church, was guided by the Paraclete through the mystery of prayer. Indeed, as we will witness the birth of the Church next Sunday at Pentecost: we shall see that Holy Spirit could come only after nine days of prayer in the Upper Room. The key was prayer. “All these devoted themselves with one accord in prayer, together with...Mary the mother of Jesus” (Acts 1:14). ROSARY Our Holy Father Pope Francis has asked us to pray for a solution to the terrible crisis in Syria and nuclear disarmament and peace between North and South Korea. And he has asked that we imitate the Apostles and pray with Our Blessed Mother Mary. Pope Francis has asked that during this month of May dedicated to Our Blessed Mother all Catholics pray the rosary daily for this double intention. Let us, you and I, take each day left in May and pray the rosary as Pope Francis has encouraged us. Our dear Mother will bring us and our devotion to her Son: “Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now>” You will find rosaries and pamphlets explaining how to pray the rosary at the back of Church. Let us trust the inspired prophecy of Jeremiah: “When you call me, when you go to pray to me, I will listen to you. When you look for me, you will find me. Yes, when you seek me with all your heart, you will find me with you, says the Lord” (Jeremiah 29:12-13). God bless! JFH
