When I stand before God at the
end of my life, I would hope that I would not have
a single bit of talent left, and
could say, “I used everything you

22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time September 2, 2018
If you arrive at STA less than 10 minutes before Mass starts...
...you have discovered that the chances of finding a parking space in the STA parking structure are slim to ZERO. We encourage anyone arriving at STA close to the start of each Mass to go directly to the Memorial Union parking ramp to park. In the end it saves you time, helps avoid frustration, and doesn’t create long back-up in the STA parking structure. Remember, STA pays for 90 minutes of parking at the MU Ramp at each Mass.
—PROCEDURE— ¨ Take a parking stub as you enter the MU Ramp:
bring this stub with you to the church. ¨ Fully insert your parking stub in the validation machine
by the gathering space doors – you should hear a soft click — remove the stub —this pays for 90 minutes of parking* and lets ISU know to charge STA.
*Your 90 minutes begin when you enter the Ramp ¨ at the MU Parking ramp exit, insert your validated stub
into the reader to raise the exit gate
¨ If you have been in the MU Ramp for more than 90 minutes you will have to pay the overage with a credit card (no AMEX) at the exit gate OR cash at a pay station inside the Memorial Union in order to exit.
¨ To pay for extra time, insert your parking ticket in the
GREEN SLOT and credit Card MAGNETIC STRIP DOWN and to the RIGHT, in the SILVER SLOT. Use the call button if you have any problems.
¨ Please cross Lincoln Way at the Ash Ave. light and
crosswalk. Do not cut across Lincoln Way and the median to take a “short cut.” Your safety is important.

God gives our work dignity, because He gives us dignity. No matter the task at hand, no matter our job or career, first and foremost we are called to serve God. “Prosper the work of our hands!” (Psalm 90) Give over your work to God. Allow Him into your work, paid or unpaid, serving a university, a company, an organization or your family. Remember Him throughout your work-day. Whatever your task your hands are busy with, ask God to prosper the work of your hands.
Next Sunday We celebrate the second Sunday of each month with Surprise Sunday at the 9:30am Coffee and Donuts. Instead of the same old doughnuts, we ask parishioners to bring home-baked treats or finger food of their choice. We usually have fruit, string cheese, hard boiled eggs, gluten-free offerings and lots of delicious sweet breads, muffins, cookies and coffee cakes. Join us. If you can add to the table, great & thank you! If not, you are still welcome!

Delta Upsilon—our neighbors to the southeast—reminds us that they have a full house and need their parking spaces & the DU men who park there pay extra for a space—please do not park in the Delta Upsilon parking lot (between their house and the STA upper parking area off of Ash Ave.). Please respect their parking. Thanks !
HAVE YOU REGISTERED IN THE PARISH FOR 2018-2019? Please do so. The Mustard Seed Farm and St. Thomas Aquinas are happy to welcome Kate Hennessy, the youngest of Dorothy Day’s nine grandchildren, to Ames and STA. Dorothy Day was indeed an inspiring figure of goodness. As Pope Francis characterized her during his address to Congress, “Her social activism, her
passion for justice and for the cause of the oppressed were inspired by the Gospel, her faith and the example of the saints.” But she was also “Granny,” a very real person in Kate’s life. A prolific writer herself, Hennessy has shed light on the personal side of her grandmother in a book titled Dorothy Day: The World Will Be Saved by Beauty (Scribner, 2017). Hennessy said she was motivated to write the book to help people understand Dorothy Day as a mother, grandmother, and a member of both her own family and the Catholic Worker family. Talk will be in the worship space on Saturday, September 29 starting at 7pm. The talk is free and open to the public.

The gathering is scheduled for Thursday September 8 from 1-4pm at the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship, 1015 Hyland Avenue. There is no cost or registration. RSVP to Erv Klass [email protected] or 515-451-0919.

Stephen Ministry Equipping the Saints...
In Ephesians 4 Paul talks about pastors and other leaders as gifts God has given the church "to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ." Stephen Ministry gives us an organized way to equip those gifted for caring ministry so that they can build up the body of Christ by providing Christian care and support to those experiencing a difficult time in their lives. Opportunities for you to learn about how you might use your gifts will begin in September as the Ames Area Catholic Stephen Ministry is forming new training classes which will begin in November. Information meetings and Spotlights will be at the three parishes during September beginning with Spotlight on Ministry at St. Thomas Aquinas on Sept. 8 and 9. Please check the bulletin and parish newsletter for dates and times for additional meetings in all three parishes. If you have questions at any time and/or need more information, please contact Glenn Sibbel (515-451-3353), Cindy Hauber (515-291-0250) or Sue Osweiler (515-709-0021).
