Introduction
• Information system (IS)– A set of interrelated components that collect,
manipulate, and disseminate data and information, and provide feedback to meet an objective

What is the difference between IT and IS?
• Information technology is the application of computers and telecommunications equipment to store, retrieve, transmit and manipulate data, often in the context of a business or other enterprise.
• Information system is any combination of information technology and people's activities that support operations, management and decision making.

• Data: raw facts• Information: collection of facts organized in
such a way that they have value beyond the facts themselves
• Knowledge: awareness and understanding of a set of information and ways that information can be made useful to support a specific task or reach a decision

• United States menempati posisi teratas dalam peraihan medali terbanyak 4 kali berturut2 dalam 5 periode Olimpiade terakhir.
• Negara Asia satu-satunya yang masuk dalam lima besar peraih medali terbanyak dalam 5 periode Olimpiade terakhir adalah China.
• Sekalipun United States menempati 4 posisi teratas dalam peraihan medali total, namun peraih medali emas terbanyak hingga saat ini adalah China, yaitu sebesar 51.
• Posisi 10 besar didominasi oleh tiga negara besar yaitu United States, China dan Russia.• Australia hanya satu kali muncul dalam posisi 20 besar, yaitu di posisi 18 pada tahun
2000.

• Input: activity of gathering and capturing raw data
• Processing: converting or transforming data into useful outputs
• Output: production of useful information, usually in the form of documents and reports
• Feedback: output that is used to make changes to input or processing activities
