From Glenn As I have said in our SKOOLBAG postings and the FACEBOOK page, term 3 has started in a way no one wanted to see. We will however move on and make the best of the situation we can. We are back to Remote Learning next week and your booklets can be picked up from 12pm-5pm today from the BER Li- brary Building deck. I would ask that you use either the drop-off zone – park to one side or better still have your children come in to collect the packs – or park in the bottom car park and walk up. Children attending will be on the top play areas, so we wont have any adult/student mixing. Yes that is not the way we like to do things at Doreen but as adult to children infection is the major reason for school infections, we must take these precautions. You will note there are some changes to the Remote Learning, as we have taken your feedback to improve the process where we can. Each pack has a separate page that can be pinned to the Fridge with ZOOM meeting times and other related information. Answers and more correction of work will also be a feature. Our feedback from last time was generally quite good, so we aim to continue this for the 4-5 weeks planned here. If the infection rates drop down again, we will return to school but we need to follow the directions of the Health Services. Lots of fingers are being pointed as to why we have this second wave and where necessary, changes must be made but the bottom line is we simply need to follow the simple guidelines and infections will drop. When they do, schools can open. The extra movement of people around the community when children are at school was too concerning with the rates of infection across the community we have at present. When schools went back last term there was no jumps in infections or major out breaks across schools. We at present have 6 hours of cleaning and disinfecting happening with rooms ventilated and children regularly washing their hands. We are also temperature checking both children and staff. If you have an appointment and come in, you will be expected to do the same. I have also had to ask several groups to leave our grounds outside of hours, adult infection is the greatest threat to the children at our school. Please make sure if you are in the group of people whose children must at- tend school you notify use by giving us a form by Friday evenings for the next week. Having said all that, term 3 may be starting differently but I am looking for- ward to some great remote learning until we get back on site. I still haven t given up on The Great Doreen Bike Ride and we have a plan in place for when we return this term but sadly Grandparent s day will not happen this year. School Sport is a little sadder at present, but we will aim for the Ivanhoe V Doreen challenge at least. Les Dahl at Ivanhoe is keen as well. We commissioned a facilities Masterplan last term as both a way to keep long term planning on track and so we had a Flagshipto use to apply for any government grants. We will post it on the Website soon. We are applying for both a $50K grant for a sandpit and outdoor play area upgrade and also an- other Solar Panel grant. Despite the COVID 19 problems, we will keep moving forward and aiming to supply the best facilities and opportunities for your children as we can.
