Students practiced making predictions about the story and checking their predictions as they read. Next week will be looking at inferences and how making inferences can help us as readers. Writing Workshop: We are continuing to looking at writing persuasive pieces. We read the story Hey, Little Ant. The story ends by asking the reader if the boy should squish the ant or should not squish the ant. Students will be working on writing to the boy to tell him what he should do! Math: We started our new math unit on doubles. Many students are still struggle with this vocabulary term. When asked to double a number, you need to add that number to itself. For example, double 2 would be 2+2, double 3 would be 3+3, and double 4 would be 4+4. We will continue this unit next week.

Content: We have moved in to our next study of matters. Students have learned about molecules and how they make up everything. They also learned how molecules work in a solid, liquid, and gas! Can your child tell you how molecules act in a solid, liquid, or gas?

C.O.S.I. on Wheels: Thanks to our wonderful community and PTO we were able to have C.O.S.I. (Center of Science and Industry) come to OSE today! The students learned about so many great things in the area of Astronomy. Here are a few quotes:

~ Daniel: Earth is heavier than the other planets.

~ Bri: You need a helmet in space or else your head will shrink.

~ Ari: The sun is the biggest star.

~ Doug: We have all the ingredients to make comets here on Earth.

~ Josué: The guy broke a racquet ball because he left it in liquid nitrogen (dry ice).

~ Belle: Some rocks are from space.

~ Remy: The sun has gasses that we can’t see.

~ Surabhi: The tire was easy to hold. After it was spun it was a bit more difficult, but not for me.

~ Keenan: If you take air out of something it gets smaller and if you put air into something it gets

bigger.

~ Jaelyn: I was able to look at a rock with a magnifying glass and saw crystals and a hole.

~ Henry: He (the presenter) put some liquid nitrogen in a water bottle and launched it across the gym.
