Premiers Sporting Challenge – Learning to Lead
Selected Year 5 and 6 students will attend a workshop at Figtree HS called ‘Learning to Lead.’ The workshop is de-signed to develop their interests and leadership skills in sport and physical activity as an organiser and beginner coach. Thank you to Mrs Morath for taking our students to this event.
THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED AND WILL NOW TAKE PLACE ON MONDAY, 13TH MARCH, 2017
.
EdYOUtopia
The EduYOUtopia anti-bullying sessions will be held with Dr Patty Rose again this year on Tuesday 21st March. Inci-
dentally, this day is also Harmony Day. This workshop has become an integral part of our student welfare program each year and Dr Rose constantly builds on what the students have learnt the previous year. Payment for this is made through the school fees.
School fees
Thank you for your patience in receiving your school payments invoice this term. We will be sending these invoices home on Monday next week.
School Evacuation Drill
Next week the school will run a mandatory evacuation drill. This is something we must do at least twice a year to ensure we have clear and well communicated procedures in place. This drill will be an evacuation, where all stu-dents, staff and visitors to the school will move to the assembly point on the back oval. We will be giving students some prior warning that this is happening. Please feel free to discuss this with your child beforehand if you feel they may become anxious.
Road Safety Resources
Next week, the road safety fence banner will be put up on our fence to remind the community about the road rules in
school zones. There is also an informative flyer attached to this edition of the newsletter.
World’s Greatest Shave
One of our students,
Emily S. is participat-
ing in ‘World’s Great-
est Shave’ to raise
funds and awareness
for the Leukaemia
Foundation. Emily will
be under the COLA
each morning, starting
next week to receive
your tax deductable
donations. On Thurs-
day 16th, Emily will
have her hair shaved off as part of her commitment to raising funds and awareness. We will also have a spokesper-
son from the Leukaemia Foundation provide the school with information at our assembly on the same day. I would
like to congratulate Emily in taking this initiative to be an active, informed and caring member of our school com-
munity. Please get behind her fundraising efforts!
Teachers are learners too!
This year, all of our teachers will be undertaking new learning in explicit and systematic instruction in reading and
comprehension. Teachers of Year 3-6 are involved in Focus on Reading and their training begins next Monday after-
noon. Thank you to Mrs Morath and Mrs Horobin who are currently being trained to deliver this learning to our
staff. Teachers of Kinder – Year 2 will all be trained in Language, Learning and Literacy (L3) and their training
starts next Thursday afternoon. Our teachers have agreed to training for the most part in their own time across after-
noons, allowing the school to save on casual cover costs as well as greater stability for our classes with minimal dis-
ruption. I would like to publicly thank our wonderful teaching staff for their dedication and enthusiasm for learning
and teaching.
Kind regards,
Principal
