Typeface, Audience & Design Messages

Name: CochinDesigner: Georges Peignot

Cochin is a transitional serif typeface. It wasoriginally produced in 1912 by Georges Peignot

for the Paris foundryDeberny & Peignot and wasbased on the copperplate engravings of French artist

Nicolas Cochin, from which the typeface also takes

its name. In 1997Cochin was adapted and expandedby Matthew Carter for Linotype. The fonthas asmall x-height with long ascenders. The typeface is

used in the Harry Potter covers produced byBloomsbury Publishing.

Audience

This poster is for the people who love birds (esp.

north American native birds). I also hope peoplewho are interested in old time painting will like it and

treat it as an artist work.

Design Messages

Key words: old time painting, birds sketches,vellum,western calligraphy, north American native birds.

Why I choose this typeface?I want to create a feel of old time artist work, so I

prefer to use calligraphy fonts. But many such fontsare somehow hard to recognize. Cochin is definitelythe best one that it gives me a strong feeling of old

time and also is easy to read.
