a. In the movie the narrator mentioned that despite the wealth that exists in the West many
are living in debt and struggling to balance their finances. Do you think this is a form of
poverty?
b. What other kinds of poverty might we see in the West?
c. Kirsty, the young lady from the UK, struggled with her credit card debt. How did her story
of cutting up her credit cards in front of her church and visiting with Pastor Joel in
Mathare cause you to think about your own financial choices?
d. When thinking about poverty we are often asked to think about what we can do to help.
Do you think there's anything that they [the poor] can help us with?
e. What do these passages tell us about what we can learn from the poor?
a. Luke 6:20 and Matthew 5:3
b. Matthew 19:24
c. James 2:5
f. Kirsty makes the comment “their [the poor] faith so much stronger (placing hope in God)
and yet they had virtually nothing. And there was me with almost everything and faith
not where it should be." Why do you think this might be the case? Do you see Kirsty's
comment reflected in your own life?
