Week 4 Term 3 5th August 2019

Good afternoon Parents, Guardians and Students,

Last week our students in the High School

enjoyed at least a couple of days involved in activities outside of the classroom! Lots of valuable life experiences and lessons were had by all those participating. You will be able to catch a glimpse of the activities through the pictures in today’s newsletter.

I had the opportunity to talk with Head Offi ce last week about beginning Stage 3 of our building program - new Art, STEM and Technical Studies complex. We have now been granted permission to submit an application to Independent Schools Victoria, for the construction of the new complex. Plans are currently being fi ne tuned and costed ready for the application

process which closes December this year. Stage 3 will certainly be a welcome addition for our specialist classes.

Our Year 10 students had their fi rst transition day at Senior College last Friday. We will also be holding transition days for new students in the coming month, so if you know of people considering Henderson College for 2020 please let them know. Invitation letters are being prepared this week to send out to those already accepted for our coming new school year.

Blessings for the coming week.

are required to meet at the oval by 8.50am as their events start at 9.10am. Students turning 6-8 years old this year are required to go to school as normal and they will be transported via the Henderson buses to the oval at 10.00am as their events start at 10.20am.

Parents who usually bring their

children to school are requested to collect their child from the Old Aerodrome Ovals at 3.00pm. All bus travellers will be taken directly to the oval or school in the morning (depending on their age) and they will be returned home in the afternoon. However, please note that your child may arrive home at least 1/2hour earlier than their usual time.

The Mallee Food Van will be at the Carnival, however this year we are asking that students pre-order their lunch like we do for school canteen. Each student has been given an order form today with the menu items available from the Mallee Food Van. Please talk over with your child what

you are prepared to purchase for them and then return the order along with the money to school by Monday 12th August. The College will be passing the orders received to Mallee Food Van owners and they will have their meal prepared by lunchtime on Athletics day. All meal deals will need to be pre-ordered.

Students will need to bring a bottle of water and a healthy snack for recess. Purchasing from the Mallee Food Van will not be possible until after 1:30pm.

All students are encouraged to participate in the fi eld events. Students need to be dressed in sports uniform with house colours as accessories!

Looking forward to a great day.

The Primary School District Athletics Competition will be held on Thursday 5th September and the High School District Athletics Competition will be held on Wednesday 11th September. Miss Johnson will be using the Athletics Carnival results to select the students to represent Henderson College at these competitions.

Re-enrolment Re-enrolment forms were sent home recently in preparation for budget planning for 2020. We would appreciate it if the forms could be checked for correct information and re-turned to the offi ce as soon as possible as planning for next year has already begun. Stu-dent numbers play a major role in deciding staffi ng levels for the coming school year. If you have a new student be-ginning in 2020 please contact the offi ce for an enrolment form and one will be sent home or visit the website and download an enrolment form.

A Message from our Student Welfare Offi cerLast week I had the pleasure of attending the Year 7 & 8 camp at Mylor Adven-ture Park. It was a beautiful setting and there were some great activities for the students, some of which were what you would call ‘easy’ or challenging to the mind and others which would be a physical challenge for most adults. The activities took the students out of their comfort zone and I was proud to see that they rose to the occasion and pushed through their fear and as a result felt a

sense of achievement and satisfaction because of their accomplishments. It was wonderful to see them grow as individuals as they faced their fears and to also make new friendships as they made great memories.
