Jehovah Nissi - The Banner
Greatest weapon that a soldier has is the banner! When people see you from distance - what comes to mind? What are they thinking about you? What banner flies over your life?If you are a follower of Jesus (Christian) note that you have a banner: Exodus 17:15 “The Lord is your banner!” (Jehovah Nissi)
Banner stands for 6 things:
1 REPRESENT
When you mention a name, images come to mind because they represent something to us. As Christian person, you live under the banner - Jesus When you go to work, to sleep, whatever you do, you do it in His name - you have a banner - Jesus Christ!Everything happens under the power of His name!
2. REPUTATION
Colors on the banner represent soldiers' heroism.
Think about God’s colors when you read the Bible:Let there be light! Let us make man Abraham - you will be father of many nations Joshua - everywhere you put foot it will be yoursSamuel - Anoint David Nehemiah - rebuild walls Jonah - go back to NinevehJesus - coming to earth Talitha - Get up
What more do we need before realizing that our God has a magnificent reputation? We can stake our lives on his Reputation
Why do we preach? Because God has a ReputationWhy do we tithe? Because God has a ReputationWe repent. Because God has a Reputation We laugh. Because God has a ReputationWhy do we worship? Because God has a Reputation.
SERMON NOTES - WEEK 3
John 21:25 Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.
3. AUTHORITY
Definition of authority: the power or right to give orders. The badge of authority policemen have makes a dierence and gives him authority.
You may ask yourself: Who am I to make a dierence in this world?
My answer is: What badge do you carry?
On His Majesty’s service Jesus said in Matthew 28,18-19 “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore GO…..”
We as followers of Jesus Christ have all authority to GO in the name of Jesus Christ. Tomorrow you wake up with a banner! You approach Coronavirus with a banner You face lockdown with a banner If emotions gets out of control you can get it together because you have a banner.
It’s a new authority. It’s a new way to think, to live, to walk, to talk, to approach situations dierently.
4. ORIGIN
As a citizen of a nation you have rights!
As a citizen of Heaven you have rights too.You have a right to call him friend, Father, healer, to ask Him to prosper you. 1 Peter 2, 11 Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers Hebrews 4,16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.Proverbs 28:1 The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.
2 Timothy 1:7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
Your origin gives you a sense of boldness
SERMON NOTES - WEEK 3 (2)
5. CAUSE
Mark 2 - Jesus heals paralyzed man
His perceived need was dierent to the real need. Jesus bypassed the perceived need (paralyzed) and addressed the real need (sins forgiven).
Our perceived needs are very real but reality/our cause is this - Salvation of a humanity. You and I need a Saviour!
6. COURAGE
Glimpse of a banner is enough for a soldier to carry on.
Where do you get courage from to face the day? When things are dicult where does determination come from?
Psalm 121,1-2 Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord.
One look, one memory, one glimpse of Jesus and the courage of God enters our soul.
If you feel like giving up, remember! There's a banner and his name is Jesus!
Song of Solomon 2:4 Let him lead me to the banquet hall, and let his banner over me be love.
