CongratulationsCongratulations to Kelly Brown who was awarded the most improved (children’s class) from the Chinese Community School.

Attendance:Participating in education is fundamental to student achievement. The Education Act 1989 requires that parents enrol their children at school and ensure they attend school whenever it is open for instruction unless there is a good reason for them to be absent.

Every day a student is not at school is a day they are not learning. Over time, patterns of non-attendance can place students at risk of poor a c h i e v e m e n t a n d e a r l y d r o p - o u t , t h u s compromising their later outcomes in life across a range of social and economic measures.

At this time of the year we are summarising attendance rates for the end of year reporting. The criteria for attendance is as follows:

• Excellent - less than 5 days absent from school - 97.5% attendance

• Satisfactory - 5-10 days absent from school - 95% attendance

• Causing concern - more than 10 days absent from school.

Sports Talk with JoThe sun is shining, so there is no better time to get outside, be active and have some fun playing sport!! All of the summer sports leagues are well underway, and the amount of children we have participating in school sports teams this term is awesome! TPS is represented in every sports arena; including touch rugby, kiwitag, kiwi volleyball, flippaball, cricket and the new girls only soccer league, with a total of 15 sports teams playing every week!! Well done to all the kids who are out there being active. Enjoy and lots of luck for all of your games!!!

On Tuesday, we were very lucky to have two NZ White Fern players, Sarah McGlashan and Kate Broadmore, visit our school as part of the NZ Cricket Women’s Roadshow. After signing autographs, the players joined in on our senior athletics rotation teaching our Year 5 and 6 kids a few tricks about cricket ball throw!!

The Year 3-6 School Athletics is on next Wednesday 7th November at the Tauranga Domain between 9am and 2:30pm. This will be a great day for all the kids to get out there and “have a go” at the various track and field events. Feel free to come and cheer all the kids on. We also require help from parents, so if you can help out on the day, please contact me via email.

Check out The Kids Grinder!! It is on Sunday 18th November at the BOP Polytechnic. It sounds like a super fun day where kids race over bouncy castles, under cargo nets and through a slippery slide. Kids can enter as an individual or in a team. There will be spot prizes up for grabs and the school with the most entries wins a prize worth $500!!! So get your mates together and join in on the fun. You can get an entry form from the school office.

Kieran Thom, Finley Nicholl and Corban Crowther proudly represented our school at the WBOP Primary Schools Tennis Championships on Sunday 28th October. All three boys performed well all day. Congratulations on your efforts!!

TPS Students awarded at local clubs:Jared Lewitt received the Team Spirit Award and Matthew Hollins the Most Improved at the Welcome Bay Rugby Club. Mitchell Sigley and Max Faulkner were both awarded trophies for their fantastic effort at the Blue Rovers Football Club!
