How your page looks and what you can do

The Interface

Log into your Facebook account

HomepageThis is the page that will greet you every time you log in

It is called your Newsfeed

It might look different to mine

The content will start to look different as you add friends because what they Post and Like will be here

But the general layout will remain the same

Let’s break the page down

Look at the top, at the blue strip

Called a Banner

Will always be there no matter what you click on or what other pages you go to within Facebook

Can use it to search for people, go back to your own page/Timeline, go back to your Newsfeed page, check Messages, Notifications, change Privacy settings and Log Out

Notifications - Messages that Notify you when someone has Liked something you have Posted, Commented on something you Posted, sent you a Friend Request etc.

Finding Friends and Liking a Page will be looked at in later sessions but this is where you

would start your search

Click on <your name> to go to your page/Timeline

Click Home to go to your Newsfeed

For this class, ignore Find Friends

Clicking on the Heads allows you to see who has Requested to be your Friend, who has accepted your Request and who you might know and might want to be Friends

with based on your current Friends

Clicking the Speech Bubbles allows you to see any Private Messages you have received

Clicking the Globe Notifies you about activity for example someone Liking or Commenting on what you

have Posted or Friend Requests

Notifications will also be emailed to you

Clicking the Lock allows you to change your

Privacy settings
