Geography - Wind Erosion:

This week we will be

looking at wind erosion and completing some

practical tasks too.

Have a look at the photos below.

Using your gathered

knowledge of erosion, can you jot down what you think is happening

and why?

Page 2: Week 12 th Week beginning Monday 29 June...2020/03/07  · Week 12 th– Week beginning Monday 29 June The learning outlined below is set for both school and home learning. Literacy,

Handwriting –

Literacy – Last week we began to look at non-

chronological reports. These are sometimes called information reports as

they contain facts, technical language and diagrams.

(They are different to a chronological

reports. Chronological reports are written in a time order like a recount of a school trip).

Look at the non-chronological text

below this plan. It has been muddled up. Can you think of the order you

think it might go in? Think about what might be a suitable ending and what

will need to be at the beginning. (Hint: there will be some sort of

introduction to that topic).

How many centimetres in

one metre?

What comes next?

132, 121, 110 ,……

8900 ÷ 100

Copy and complete this table:

Copy this number line and label it

with decimal numbers and tenths as fractions. Mark on the fraction by

each arrow:

………………………………………………………………………..

There are some sentence starters to help you

think of ideas.

Think about the hardness of the rocks

and the speed of the

wind to have caused

these shapes.

3- Year 3

Once you have organised the information, try moving some of the

sections. Does it still make sense?

You may add diagrams to each section if it will help your reader to

understand the information.

By the end of this lesson, you will see

that a title and introduction must come

first, then the rest of the information can be organised in any order. It’s up to the writer.

PQ/ Challenge:

Hint: 100cm = 1 m 100 divided by ten is ten (Answer below)

Tuesday 30th June Email your writing in today’s literacy lesson to your teacher by Wednesday.

Daily Reading - Read for ten minutes.

You may be needing more books to read. Take a look at the website

‘oxford owl’. They have books for all ages. The details are on our webpage.

Don’t forget to find out about the Essex Library Summer Reading

challenge.

Spelling - Practise three of the Year 3

spelling words. They are found in

your reading record or in the word list

in the Home Learning Folder.

Literacy – Past, present, future tense.

Arithmetic focus: Tables: x11 descending order (A new battle on TT Rockstars has started and will end at 4pm on Thursday). Use the column method when you need it.

921 + 70 =

189 + 50 = 794 – 90 =

Before you start the questions today,

take a look at SPTV for some help.

Wind erosion- making a

PowerPoint / poster

Today we would like you to create a

PowerPoint presentation or poster about wind

erosion. You can also include other types of

erosion too.

Watch the clip below to help you or maybe do some research of your

own also.

Page 4: Week 12 th Week beginning Monday 29 June...2020/03/07  · Week 12 th– Week beginning Monday 29 June The learning outlined below is set for both school and home learning. Literacy,

4- Year 3

A copy or photograph of today’s work MUST be sent to your teacher by

Wednesday.

Non-chronological texts are written mostly in the present tense eg. The

Togo Lizard is endangered (not was).

Today’s work has a grammar focus

looking at the past tense, the present

tense and the future tense.

Past tense - the event has already happened.

Present tense - the event is happening now.

Future tense - the event is going to happen. Using the above definitions to help you, identify which tense these sentences are written in either the past, present or future tense.

1. The owl is flying through the woods.

2. Last night the owl flew

through the woods.

4 x 11 = 121 ÷ 11 =

1210 ÷ 11 = How many

Try to include headings,

subheading, photos and captions. You may

even include a glossary, fun facts or even a

map.

Why don’t you ask

someone at home to tweet your work to the

school twitter when you have finished? It may

help other people with ideas too. You can

send us pictures of your work and we will tweet

these for you.

4. Yesterday I sang in the

garden. 5. Little Mix are about to sing

their new single.

6. The children will watch the

match live on Saturday.

7. Everyone ate their broccoli

yesterday.

Now look at the activity below this plan. You need to choose three verbs from the grid then write a past, present and future sentence for each verb. Watch out for tricky words like ‘buy’ – it becomes bought in the past tense and definitely not ‘buyed’. Remember to email us your sentences.

Literacy – Third person

Today we will be looking at how we

use the third person in non-chronological reports.

Watch the clip below to help you understand what the first, second and

Other features of the Tongo lizard

A little known fact about these incredible animals is that it is a very graceful and agile swimmer: it’s able to reach a speed of 15mph

whilst in water as it skims the surface for bursts at a time. As they are reptiles and therefore cold-blooded: this species need to spend

hours basking in the sun to maintain their body temperature. If you want to find out more about the Tongo Lizard then you can visit the

Tongo Lizard Society website.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

How does the creature defend itself?

The lizard is very adept at defending itself against its predators: which include mammals such as tigers and also snakes. As

aforementioned it is able to change its skin to camouflage itself: which enables the lizard to travel for miles without being spotted. It

has a protruding spike at the end of its tail, which it will move from left to right if threatened. Because of its aerodynamic body it is

able to run extremely fast: being able to reach 10mph in just 3 seconds. If a predator does capture a Tongo lizard, it will release its tail

from its body: hoping the predator will then be distracted by the severed limb in order for it to escape. Not to worry though as the

lizard has regenerative genes and can grow its tail back within a few short months.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

The Tongo Lizard

The Tongo lizard belongs to the reptile family: there are over 4,500 species of lizard in the wild. They are very rare as they are an

endangered species due to poaching, which was most prevalent in the 1990s. They only live in hot countries such as; Mexico, Somalia and

India. They are very much like the Komodo dragon, the reason being is because they are in fact related.

Monday – Literacy: Ordering a non-chronological report (There are two pages).

Cut along the dotted line and stick the sections onto a new piece of paper when you have decided the order.

Page 16: Week 12 th Week beginning Monday 29 June...2020/03/07  · Week 12 th– Week beginning Monday 29 June The learning outlined below is set for both school and home learning. Literacy,

16- Year 3

Where does the Tongo lizard live?

The Tongo lizard lives in a multitude of habitats due to its adaptive qualities: as long as the temperature is hot the Tongo lizard will

survive. In tropical areas it will create burrows in the undergrowth: shielding it from predators. In sub-Saharan regions it will cover

itself in sand. This means most countries will be inhabited by these amazing creatures!

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

What does the Tongo lizard eat?

The Tongo lizard is omnivorous (meaning it eats both plants and meat). It mostly feasts on small grubs found on forest floors and within

sandy dunes: this supplies the lizard with most of its protein. It has sharp talons, which are great for tearing apart its prey. It will also

munch on fallen, decaying leaves.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

What does the Tongo lizard look like?

This unique creature has a long tail, which can grow to be a foot long. Its eyes are lilac in colour with its pupils varying from green to red

(depending on its mood). The male lizard, which is smaller than the female, is brightly coloured most of the time in order to attract a

mate for breeding. They have four webbed feet, which have suction cups underneath so that they can climb trees.

Choose three verbs. Write three sentences for your three chosen verbs. The first sentence must be in the past, the

second in the present and the third in the future. Write the tense in brackets at the end of the sentence. Be careful,

making some words into the past tense. For example buy becomes ‘bought’ and definitely not ‘buyed’ and ‘bring’ becomes

‘brought’ and definitely not ‘brung’.

Today Natasha is jumping in the garden. (present)

Tomorrow, Natasha is taking part in a sponsored jump. (future)
