WORK DONE SO FAR

Work started on August 25th, 2015. John Mbiyieba, together with a carpenter from the community

purchased the necessary materials for the furniture and the carpenter started work on the furniture

on August 28th, 2015. By September 9, 2015, the carpenter completed work on 35 dual desks. The

desks were designed to accommodate three children per seat and therefore, the 35 can adequately

cater for the 80 children in the school.

John also bought part of the building materials needed for putting up of a classroom. However, the

community members suggested that the building be put on hold until the heavy rains subsided, to

prevent possible collapse during building which will lead to wastage of resource. The building is

therefore, expected to take place in late October when there will be less rainfall in the area.

PLANS FOR COMPLETING THE REST OF THE PROJECT

The community members are very happy that the project is being implemented and are willing to

work at their best when it is time for building the classroom.

The school is currently running under the old shed as we wait for the classroom.

As soon as the classroom is put up, they will move in.

We continuously motivate the community members to commit to keeping their children in

school.

CHALLENGES

Heavy rain. We had to extend the date for building until the rain subsides

Funds. The community members are willing to contribute in terms of labour but not funds

People are willing to volunteer to teach the children but we are currently unable to take

volunteers from outside the locality due to lack of funds. We therefore depend on only one

volunteer teacher.
