Work has been completed on the city’s irrigation pond to double as a city fishing pond. An Eagle Scout project has also provided this area with picnic tables and fire pits. This has been a very successful project. Work on the new hydroelectric project to be located up Monroe Canyon has started. The applications are being filled out with the federal government now with the physical part of the project to hopefully get started later this year. Several Eagle Scout projects were completed, including a flagpole at the senior citizens center, a new drinking fountain and benches in front of the library, cemetery improvements and shingles, soffit and facia at the community center. Plans are being made for a new picnic pavilion to be constructed at Mountain View Park near the tennis courts. The new emergency service ambulance building and city shop is nearing completion. This has been a joint project with Sevier County and Monroe City. The city’s hometown traditions of the annual Pioneer Day celebration, public power appreciation picnic and holiday tree lighting continue to be successful. The work of our city employees and many volunteers have again made for another successful year in Monroe. Working together is the key to making our community such a great place to live.
