DEPARTMENT 19: FLORICULTURE

Judging: Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m., Ag Building

• Attention Exhibitors: Please review all general guidelines for Departments 17–27 on page 35.

• Extra greens or fillers should not be used except in arrangements.

• PLEASE NOTE: You need to have the exact number of plants, stems, blooms or designated item in each class to exhibit. Check behind the class name or on top by the division name to see how many you need.

• Exhibits should be in a clean, clear (if possible), sturdy, suitable container no larger than 3" in diameter. If container is over 3" in diameter, it will not fit in the display cases. If you have a top-heavy exhibit, feel free to add weight to the bottom of the vase, e.g., colored glass beads or stones.

• No colored containers please. We make every effort to make sure your exhibit is looking good, and clear bottles/containers enable us to monitor the water level.

• No plastic bottles please. Plastic bottles/ containers tend to tip easily.

• Good size of bloom and uniformity of the variety in size is one of the points judges consider. In addition, good color and substance, form of bloom, good clean foliage and a strong stem with leaves left on are essential.

• Helpful hint: leave the stem as long as possible to reach the water in your vase for the duration of the fair.

• Please, no foliage below water line. • Harden flowers: cut in morning or evening, cut

at an angle using sharp knife and place in warm water for 2 hours or overnight—flowers will last longer.

• Please note: Specify on exhibit label as to suggest-ed watering during the fair.
