Jeff Lynne’s ELO sets first US tour in over 35 years

Warner Bros. has moved up Gal Gadot’s “Wonder Woman 2” six weeks to Novem-ber 1, 2019, from December 13, 2019.

The studio made the announcement on Monday. Patty Jenkins is returning to direct. It’s the fi rst title to land on November 1, 2019. The new date also places “Wonder Woman 2” seven weeks away — rather than a single week — from Disney-Lucasfi lm’s “Star Wars: Episode IX,” which opens on December 20, 2019.

“Wonder Woman” was a massive hit for Warners with US$412 million in domestic grosses and US$409 million internationally.

“Wonder Woman” is the fourth install-ment in the studio’s DC Extended Uni-verse, which launched with 2013’s “Man of Steel” with an opening weekend of US$116.6 million, followed by last year’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” with US$166 million, and

“Suicide Squad” with US$133.6 mil-lion. “Wonder Woman,” made for about US$150 million, is critically acclaimed*, with a 92 percent “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

“Wonder Woman” opened with US$103 million in North America on June 2-4, but has outperformed the other titles to become the 20th highest domestic grosser* of all time. It’s the second-highest-grossing 2017 title after “Beauty and the Beast.”

Page Six reported on November 11 that Gadot was refusing to do the sequel unless Brett Ratner’s production company was not involved but Warner Bros. has said the story is “false.” RatPac had been a fi nancier on “Wonder Woman” but Warner Bros. severed ties with Ratner on November 1 following revelations of multiple cases of sexual harassment by the fi lmmaker.

Sony Pictures is developing an untitled movie based on Spider-Man’s antago-nist “Morbius, the Living Vampire.”

The project is being written by the scripting team of Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, whose feature credits include “Power Rangers,” “Gods of Egypt,” “Dracula Untold” and “The Last Witch Hunter.”

Morbius was created in 1971 by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane for “Amazing Spider-Man” issue number 101. He was a scientist who tried to cure himself of a blood disease with tragic* results as he became

affl icted with vampiric* traits* such as fangs* and a thirst for blood — and wound up battling Spider-Man.

Morbius appeared sporadically* in Marvel Comics in the subsequent years and was revived in the 1992 series “Morbius, the Living Vampire,” which had a run of 32 issues through April 1995.

Sony had no comment as to whether the Morbius project will be connected to its Tom Holland “Spider-Man” movies or the Marvel Cinematic Uni-verse.

pirism in “Dracula Untold” directed by Gary Shore in his feature fi lm debut and written as an origin story for its title character, Count Dracula, por-trayed by Luke Evans. Sarah Gadon, Dominic Cooper, Art Parkinson, and Charles Dance also starred. “Dracula Untold” was released by Universal and grossed US$217 million worldwide in 2014.

Jeff Lynne and his Electric Light Orches-tra have announced a summer 2018 North American arena tour, the Rock Hall-inducted band’s fi rst U.S. trek in over 35 years.

ELO’s fi rst U.S. tour since 1981 will kick off on August 2, 2018 at Oakland, California’s Oracle Arena and spread 10 shows over three weeks before conclud-ing on August 24, 2018 at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center.

“Our audiences are amazing. It’s like they’re in the group. We can’t wait to play for them again,” Lynne said in a statement.

Tickets for ELO’s tour will go on sale on November 17 at Ticketmaster. The announcement of the tour comes four days before the arrival of ELO’s Wembley or Bust concert fi lm/live album; fans who preorder that set will receive a “priority access” pre-sale code allowing them to purchase tickets to ELO’s North American tour starting on November 14.
