Year 3 students will visit for the day whilst year 4 students will stay overnight. Students will be involved in various lessons and activities related to the environment. Rainforest walks, creek studies, plant and animal identification, effects of pollution and sustainability are part of the program. We trust the staff and students have a wonderful time and learn lots of new things. North Coast Regional Athletics On Friday 3 rd September 6 of our students travelled to Riverview Park, South Lismore to compete in the North Coast Regional PSSA Athletics Championships. We had a very successful day with three of our students qualifying to represent at the NSW Primary School Athletics Championships to be held at the Olympic Stadium in Homebush, Sydney next term. Congratulations to River (1 st 100m), Myles (2 nd Shot put AWD) and Jasmine (1 st long jump AWD). Afternoon Muster At the conclusion of each school day, our school has an afternoon assembly before dismissing the students. This has been a valuable tool in ensuring all students leave the school in a sensible and safe manner. Students who are being picked up later than 3:10pm or whose parents are running late need to remain seated in the assembly COLA area under teacher supervision. The teachers make phone calls to parents if required. We have had some problems with students playing on the fixed equipment and leaving the designated area before being collected by parents. If you know you are going to be late to collect your child/ren, please call the office to advise the staff, these students will be supervised in the foyer until collection. COLES - Sports for schools From Thursday 2 September till Sunday 31 October 2010, every $10.00 customers spend at Coles, Coles on-line, Bi-lo and Pick ’n’ Pay stores will earn a Coles Sport For Schools Voucher worth one point. These vouchers can be placed in a box in the school foyer. At the conclusion of the program, our school will ’cash in’ the vouchers to claim various sporting products and equipment for use by the students at LPS. We encourage all families to participate in this program but respect your right to choose your supermarket chain. Fathers Day Stall We would like to thank all the families who donated gifts to our Fathers Day stall. The stall was a big success with lots of students purchasing gifts. We would also like to thank the volunteers who operated the stall. Your time is invaluable to our school and we appreciate all you do. Allan Duroux, Relieving Principal

Library Our Book Week Celebration Day on August 25 was a great success. Thank you very much for your generosity and support. The commission from the Book Fair enabled us to buy $700 worth of new books for the library. Ms Gibson, Librarian

SRC Thank you everyone for supporting Red Day last Friday. We made $246.70 which will go towards expenses for the next disco. The Royal Masked Ball disco will be held on Thursday 16 September. As well as the disco there will be a special royal banquet available from the canteen.

Prize categories for the night are: Most fabulous smile, best dressed on the theme, best hairstyle, best ballroom dancers, best disco dancers, best masks, prince and princess, king and queen. It should be a great night! Ms Gibson, Co-ordinator Performing Arts Festival - “ABBA – Voulez Vous” Last Wednesday, 1st September, the children in the school dance, band and choir demonstrated their talents at the Lismore and District Performing Arts Festival. The children represented their school with pride and entertained audiences for both the matinee and evening performance. The dance group consisted of 49 children from Kinder to Year 6. They performed ABBA Voulez Vous , a medley of ABBA songs. The band members from school performed in the combined schools band who kept the audience rocking. The senior choir sang perfectly, creating goosebumps on many adults arms. Their rendition of Angels was purely amazing.

Not only the teachers from Lismore PS, but many members from the community and other schools were truly impressed with the behaviour of all our students. They should be very proud of themselves. A big thankyou needs to be given to the supporting staff members and parents who help to provide these fantastic opportunities for the children. The looks upon their faces after each performance was enough to show how rewarding these opportunities are to them. Great job Lismore PS. H Cole, K Ramsay, J Hardy

Extension Band Sarah, Jessica and Rheanna from LPS performed with the Extension Band at Goonellabah RSL last Wednesday afternoon for the DET Awards Presentation. The band is made up of students from Year 5 and 6 as well as high school students. They rehearse on Thursday afternoons with the conductor Nigel Hort to prepare items to perform in the local community. Well done girls!

Uniform Shop Our current convenor of the uniform shop will be leaving at the end of this term. We are asking for any anyone interested in operating the school uniform shop to please leave their name and phone number at the school office. Heather will be available to train someone until the end of this term. You will be expected to start on your own at the beginning of Term 4. Please note this is a voluntary position and children are not permitted in the canteen area.

From next week, members of our SRC will be going round the playground asking students what the school rules are. If you answer correctly your name goes into a draw. 5 names are drawn each week at Friday’s assembly. The lucky winners get an SRC award.

Learn the rules to be in it and win that award!

Red Day We would like to thank all the students and parents for supporting our special red day at the canteen. The food items were well supported and we took in excess of $700 over the counter. The funds raised through the canteen will go towards some much needed equipment in the canteen. We will be looking at getting a new oven, new pie warmers and a new industrial blender. The canteen committee will meet to discuss how the school canteen will best benefit from the items we purchase.

We wish to also thank all parents who volunteered their time to help with the Fathers days stall last Thursday.
