The world is changing around us beyond all recognition. We have seen far too often the dangers of becoming an isolated society and one that is solely inward looking and focused on ethnocentricity. We need to embrace, develop and dis-seminate a new paradigm and practice of collaboration through effective partner-ship working, not only outside of the school, the locality but internationally. Perins has a strong tradition of such collaborative working and once again we are both proud and privileged to be sending 83 of some of the finest students and staff, acting as true ambassadors of not only the school but that British education has to offer to our good friends in South Africa.
It was a pleasure to meet such committed and wonderful representatives of South Africa when staff and students of Ogwini High School visited Perins last year. It fills me with great hope for the future of all of our young people and society as a whole to know that two schools that are so very unique can act as one combined society, embracing each others cultures and differences for mutualistic benefits.
I am proud of our students and staff on a daily basis but none more so than when they engage in major events such as this where I know they will represent every-thing we stand for at Perins and will wear our badge with honour.
I thank each and every member of staff who have worked tirelessly to ensure that this tour is a success, the parents who have supported us throughout, the commu-nity for their generous donations, sponsorship and engagement and most im-portantly the amazing students that make these events worthwhile and provide the memories for many years to come.
To our hosts, I pay particular thanks and although I cannot be with you in person, I am with you in spirit and I welcome your return to us in the future.
I leave you with a quote from Nelson Mandela:

This tour is Perins School’s 6th adventure to South Africa-an excellent indi-
cator of the phenomenal experiences enjoyed by all on previous trips.
The combination of playing sport in a country with such proud sporting
traditions, learning of a fascinating national history, witnessing wonderful
sights, participating in exhilarating adventure and enjoying delightful hospi-
tality from people of different cultures, all adds up to providing every tour-
ist with one of their most memorable and influential chapters of their lives.
The experience generates memories which will remain forever and helps
pupils to forge a positive outlook towards life. I know you will all look back
on it with fondness.

Acknowledgements
Perins Sports Tour 2017 is one of our larger tours with 73 children and 10
members of staff experiencing this fantastic opportunity. The venture is
only possible due to the amazing and vital contributions of numerous
sponsors, local businesses, staff, parents, students and volunteers.
The tireless hard work and extreme kindness and generosity of all the indi-
viduals involved during the fundraising projects has been immense. Wheth-
er it was organising large events, such as the Sports Dinner, taking students
to local supermarkets or even selling ice-creams at local events, every ac-
tion has made a significant impact.
This once in a lifetime opportunity would not be possible without your
support and we cannot thank you enough for your involvement. We would
need a whole new booklet to list all that have contributed and so we do not
miss anybody out, we as a PE department, would like all to know that we
recognise and appreciate everybody who has chipped in to help.

DAY 1 - WED 19th July PERINS - CAPE TOWN
1630 Group departs Perins for South Africa Sports Tour 2017

DAY 2 - THURS 20th July - CAPE TOWN (STELLENBOSCH)
1000 Flight BA059 arrives in Cape Town. Transfer to Protea Hotel, Stellen-
bosch (2 night stay)
1330 Once settled into our new environment students will get the
opportunity to train for their respective sports at the University of
Stellenbosch
0900 Today we transfer to the V&A Waterfront ready for our ferry crossing to
Robben Island. Here we have a tour of the world famous prison,
including a chance to glimpse the cell where Nelson Mandela himself
was held.
The ferry crossing will give a stunning view of the ‘Mother City’ with its
Table Mountain backdrop. The history of Robben Island goes back thou-
sands of years. In centuries past it was used as a pantry and source of
raw materials by seafarers and colonists, and as a whaling station, hospi-
tal, mental asylum and military base. Robben Island is best known as a
place of banishment. The most famous prisoner who spent 19 of his
27years of incarceration here was Nelson Mandela. A former inmate will
take you on the one and a half hour tour through the prison and around
the island, with its beautiful flora and fauna. The last prisoners left the is-
land in 1996, and since then Robben Island has become a museum which
symbolises the struggle to overthrow apartheid.
1500 On return from the island, we transfer to take a cable car up to the
mountain peak. We will then transfer back to our accommodation.
The Table Mountain cableway is South Africa’s third most popular tourist
attraction, not least because it transports the visitor to an experience of
immense serenity in the sky. As it speeds past the mountain’s craggy
granite face the rotating floor gives everyone a 360º view, the sound of
the city silenced 1000m below.
DAY 3 - FRIDAY 21st JULY - CAPE TOWN (STELLENBOSCH)
DAY 4 - SATURDAY 22nd JULY - CAPE TOWN
Once we have checked out of the hotel we will then head to our first set of
matches! There will be a post match function after the games with our new
hosts.

1500 Transfer to next accommodation which is, Protea Hotel Breakwater
Lodge.
Today we will depart the hotel and arrive at Muizenburg Beach, Surfers Corner
for our surfing session with ‘Roxy Surfing School’.
After two fun sessions of surfing and a light lunch to regain our energy, we
transfer to our next school for students to meet their first host families.
BERGVLIET HIGH SCHOOL—2 night host family stay
DAY 5 - SUNDAY 23rd JULY - CAPE TOWN
DAY 6 - MONDAY 24th JULY-CAPE TOWN/BERGVLIET HIGH SCHOOL
Today we will wake up and have the morning to sightsee and spend at leisure.
After spending the day out, we will transfer back to Bergvliet High School for
2nd set of fixtures.
ALL TEAMS V BERGVLIET HIGH SCHOOL
There will be a post match function after the games with our new hosts. All
students to return home with host families.
DAY 7 - TUESDAY 25th JULY - DURBAN
This will be the last morning we spend in Cape Town. Once the staff have
collected pupils from their host families and goodbyes have been said we will
transfer to Cape Town Airport for our flight to Durban.
1035 Flight MN701 departs Cape Town
1240 Flight MN701 arrives in King Shaka Airport, Durban
Upon arrival we will transfer to new accommodation— Blue Waters Hotel
DAY 8 - WEDNESDAY 26th JULY - DURBAN / PIETERMARITZBURG
Staff will be transferred to the local schools to supervise the students while
their billets are in class. This is likely to include local sightseeing of some sort.
In the afternoon we will play our 3rd matches:

NETBALL V DANVILLE PARK GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL
HOCKEY V DANVILLE PARK GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL
After enjoying a post match function, pupils will then head back with their
new host families for 1 night.
Staff will pick up the tourists from the local school in the morning and we will
say goodbye to our hosts. We will then depart for our next school OGWINI
HIGH, UMLAZI. Here Perins pupils will train their Ogwini host pupils in activi-
ties that they play in England. We will transfer to our next accommodation-
Blue Waters Hotel, where we will stay for the next three nights.
DAY 9 - THURSDAY 27th JULY - PIETERMARTIZBURG/DURBAN
DAY 10 - FRIDAY 28th JULY - DURBAN
After eating breakfast at our hotel we will transfer to OGWINI HIGH where we
will play our next set of matches. Upon completion we transfer back to the
hotel for our overnight stay.
DAY 11 - SATURDAY 29th JULY - DURBAN
Today we will have the opportunity to visit Ushaka Marine World for a full day
excursion. After a day of fun, we transfer back to Blue Waters Hotel and enjoy
an evening at leisure.

activities and lots more ...
DAY 12– SUNDAY 30th JULY - DURBAN/JOHANNESBURG/PILANESBURG
Once we have eaten breakfast, we will check out and depart for Durban
airport.
1200 Flight MN530 departs Durban
1310 Flight MN530 arrives Johannesburg
On arrival at Lanseria International Airport we will meet our coach driver and
transfer to Pilasnesberg Game Reserve to stay at our accommodation (Bakgatla
Resort) for two nights.
DAY 13 - MONDAY 31st JULY - PILANESBURG
After breakfast, we head to Sun City for a day’s excursion in the local water-
park ‘Valley of the Waves.’ Once we have transferred back we will enjoy a late
night game drive before our dinner.
Spot the ‘Big 5’ – Lion, Leopard, Rhino, Buffalo and Elephant on 4x4
Open Landrovers with qualified game rangers.
DAY 14 - TUES 1st AUG - PILANESBURG/JOHANNESBURG/IN FLIGHT
0720 Flight BA54 arrives at London Heathrow, Terminal 3.
Transfer from London Heathrow (T3) to Perins School.
0930 Sad, worn out, tired faced to meet family for collection.
End of tour :-(
We will start the day with our last opportunity to see the ‘Big 5’ on an early
morning game drive.
After breakfast and check out we will enjoy a day at our leisure before
transferring to Johannesburg Airport for our return flight to the UK.

Expected Behaviour:
At all times players will be polite, courteous and helpful
Players will be punctual…5 MINUTES EARLY IS ON TIME!
Rooms must be kept tidy and clean (room inspections will occur at the start
and end of each day)
Boys DO NOT enter girl’s rooms
Girls DO NOT enter boys’ rooms
No movement between rooms is permitted after lights out
For all unsupervised activities pupils must stay in groups of at least four
Players do not leave bags unattended at any time
Players do not joke about bag contents at airports
Players are not allowed to purchase alcohol, fireworks, knives or
anything else that has the potential to threaten the safety of
themselves or others
Smoking is not allowed
Players are not allowed in the sea or pools unless supervised by
appropriately qualified adults
Players should avoid carrying un-necessary valuables. Those that are taken
must not be displayed in public places but hidden in concealed pockets
away from pick-pockets.
In any situation of distress, contact staff via phone or by sending two of
your four as runners
