Revision Guidance

Preparation for practical Music exams

Due to the progressive nature of the practical element of the course it is very important to meet targets set by your teacher throughout the year This will ensure that you are well prepared for assessments Prelim exams and the final SQA practical exam in March

Practice is not always about playing your music from the beginning to the end every time You must identify tricky barspassages of your music work on these areas in an isolated way and then you will notice that your overall performance will be more fluent

Remember ndash you are marked on many aspects of your performance ndash dynamics mood character rhythm a confident sound ndash itrsquos not just about playing the notes correctly

If you are performing with backing tracks then it is a good idea to start rehearsing with these in plenty of time

Listening

Listening ndash learnrevise your concepts on a weekly basis If you donrsquot learn the meaning of the concepts then it will be impossible to recognise them in the context of a piece of music
