In 1964 he was awarded a Bachelor of Arts Degree at UWA. In 1932 he had begun a serious study of ornithology culminating in the re-discovery of the Noisy Scrub Bird, which was thought to be extinct, at Two People Bay in December 1961. A long campaign to protect the bird’s habitat from development as a town site began with support from the Duke of Edinburgh and eminent scientists, Dr. Norman Robinson and Dr. Dom Serventy, among others. In 1966 the area was preserved as the Two People Bay Nature Reserve. The collection includes extensive correspondence with Drs. Robinson and Serventy concerning the recording and photography of the birds of Two People Bay.
